Recommend a non photographers camera

Hi, as someone with no eye for photography and no understanding of camera features or function I need to photographically document something and am looking for help with what to look for in the camera I buy or better still just tell me what camera to buy ,
I've seen the gallery so I know this is the place to ask:)

Hi Paul, you'll probably get alternative answers of 'posher' kit but I think Lumix make some great cameras for not excessive money.

Their big plus point is they use Leica lenses. I have an old Lumix DMC-FZ10 that is only 4M pixel resolution but has a large x12 leica lens and takes superb quality pics.

The newer Lumix have an IA (intelligent auto) function that takes all the guesswork out of shooting pics. Just a thought.......

+2 for Lumix. My wife and I both had TZ range and they're great point and shoot with huge zoom range and very reasonable picture quality.

My wife has a Nikon cheapy model which I've used a few times and it's pretty impressive and I can assure you neither of us are decent photographers. I bought it for her a couple of years back for Christmas and think it was in the region of £80 all in with a carry case and SD card from Dixons.com

Well many thanks to everybody especially the back ups to Alan's lumix recommendation , so after a quick trip to the local retail hell hole I am now the owner of a Lumix DMC G3 ,just need to work out how to use it now, the sales boy wasn't much help as he spent most of the time staring at my wifes tits:rolleyes: you might think the two kids hanging off her dress would of put him off ,

I have the Lumiz T25 and it's a piece of crap, the low light is just bloody awful.

I would look for a NOS Canon IXUS 60 or for something bigger the Sony Bridge range. For compact cameras I wouldn't go above 6MP. http://6mpixel.org/en/

+1 for Lumix - i have had a few and they have all been either excellent or very good - they still work too

Just one thing to note:
Buy one that has the 'click' button nearest the edge like this:

How much are you spending and do you favour new, or is a good used camera acceptable?

I recently picked up a mint Fujifilm Finepix E900 compact for £40 that takes excellent photos and is very simple to use, but it also has many facilities should they be needed. The 9mp resolution is more than adequate for just about all purposes and it will take 'macro' shots well (close ups).
