So what do we know about this then guys? As a very proud and happy owner of a Brio-R I would welcome anybody's views or experiences of the new Elicit and I don't give a flying monkeys about Richard D and his cronies if when they start accusing folk of promoting it, I'm old enough and ugly enough to make my own mind up when I get to hear one - in the meantime anybody heard it yet?

There is a thread on PF. Some like it a couple don't. You will have to make your own mind up if it's worth 3 times the Brio R cost. I've seen some colour pics and it looks rather nicer than the old full width amps at least. While I think RD is wrong in picking on any mention of Rega (the least self promoting major UK brand) one has to point out you can buy NVA 80W Monos and a pre for the same amount of dosh - or Jolida / Icon audio valve amps or used Albarrys.

I'll check out PFM Paul, thanks. I hear what you say about NVA and I always try to support British products, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy them for reasons I don't intend to get into here, shame really but that's just me. I do like Albarry and have a PP1, but I love the Rega house sound, which suits my ears and my pocket ;)

It's like a grown up Brio-r, with even more drive, greater prescience and finesse. All those things we look for in good hi-fi but rarely find. The inbuilt MM phono stage also, is better than the Brio-r.

I've been using my demo Elicit a lot, the past few weeks, not just to dem it but as a workhorse when demo'ing speakers and turntables. It's my go-to choice because it delivers the goods.

I've not heard it yet, but Rega make a big thing about it being a turbo-charged Brio R-beased design (in the power amp anyway) with bigger supplies, more power and extra refinements. The Osiris I heard at Dave's a year or so ago was similar, so in my view, if you like one of these amps, you'll love 'em all depending on finances and requirements.

The envelope is under the doormat Tim...

Didn't you know, it is Rega who run Prism on behalf of the US security forces...

Bears have a tendency to do that if you prod at them with a stick...ironic that the prediction of the Elcit R thread has become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

As for the amp does anyone know if the phono stage is discrete or does it use op amp(s)?

Well of course, because we're not 'shilling' a pair of NVA monoblocks and a passive preamp instead. Maybe we should and shut Jammy Dodger up for good for the dreadful ad hominem he's thrown our way - fuckwits indeed... Mind you Tim, the suggestion of a second hand pair of Albarry power amps was a good one if they've not been sold yet - love 'em and Neil's a really lovely chap too :)

Looks the business and I bet it sounds great too. Whether that's an extra grands worth over the brio-r i dont know. I would be interested to hear them both side by side.

Sadly too dear for me new, if they are well regarded then I might pick one up second and when the inevitable price drop occurs. Much new gear does this though so its no t solely a Rega thing as a flavour of the month item.

You see, this is the great thing thing about the brio-r, I've now had mine a year and still no desire to change the beating heart of my system. This is not a shill BTW, I'm just one of many contented brio-r owners. Flavour of the month has become flavour of the year and likely a few more.

Me too Richard, very content, I was just interested in opinions really as the only other forum I occasionally visit is HFS and I only read the AoS thread as unlike others I find it amusing and some of the points I actually agree with, but the mud slinging is out of order (from both sides).

I'm not in the market for a new amp and unlikely to be for sometime, its just curiosity from a fan of the marque? I'm not a fan of the looks however, of either this or the Brio but I do love how the Brio sounds and for those interested I listened to a lot of amps (for me anyway) both valve and SS before settling on the Brio-R. I spend ages deciding on an upgrade as I hate doing it, far too stressful for my liking and in the end all rather confusing and it gets in the way of my enjoyment of music.

Thanks for the suggestion re the Albarry Mono's Dave, I did spot them but as much as I would be interested in hearing them, 1500 quid buys me an awful lot of music, both live and on disc ;)

The Albarry's are one product you BUY blind - no thinking necessary, and especially with the speakers you have!!!!!!!!!!! Very few times I could ever say that, but in this case...:)
