In a voice only Gollum can do justice to, with grateful thanks to Mike for his advice, "My Precious" - a new baby, but feels like the return of an old friend :D

You took the drool right out of my mouth! :) Must get a stylus guard from somewhere - I'm pooing my pants every time I go near it. I have broken these before...

Excuse my ignorance but what is it? If you say 'a cartridge' Richard I promise I will play 'The Birdie Song' so loud you will hear it all the way down in The Garden of England... :D

Soz - have friends for a barbeque here. It is a technics EPS310MC - A P mount version in an adaptor bracket. It is the low output moving coil brother of my old favourite the U205C. It tracks at 1.25gm. Properly. And it is drop-dead gorgeous.
Was that good enough? :)

A lucky escape :D

Just wow'd the cloggie friends. It is every bit as special as I hoped. Not quite set up right - I need an arm or headshell mod to get the alignment bang on (although I can't hear any distortion, and I'm shocking fussy)
Also may play with the cartridge loading, although the U205 was very tolerant, and this seems pretty good on 100 ohm
Been called away ...:)

Ha mrs s has just "had a listen". She was too polite to say so directly, but thought I was certifiable for chasing a needle from america. She's turning into a hifi nut. Cannot believe it can be so good. I'm just relieved it works. I still can't see the stylus . But its obviously there:)
I had wondered why you had to source from Arizona and then I recalled a holiday there a few years ago.
I have tracked down the supply of the needles in Arizona, although they look more suited to 78s:

I realise most don't know this cartridge. In common with the U205 (MM) it has a pure boron cantilever produced by vapor deposition. The specs are below :)
CARTRIDGE section CARTRIDGE section
Type : EPC-310MC with coreless twin ring coils
Cantilever : pure boron pipe
Damper : Technics Temperature Defense Damper
Frequency response : 10Hz...60Khz
10Hz...10Khz (± 0,5dB)
Temperature characteristics:
±1dB at 10Khz (5°...35°)
(standard 0dB / 1Khz / 20°C)
Output voltage : 0,2mV / 1Khz / 5cm/s (zero to peak, lateral velocity)
0,56mV / 1Khz / 10cm/s (zero to peak, 45° velocity, DIN
45500)
Channel separation : > 25dB (1Khz)
> 20dB (10Khz)
Channel balance : within 1dB (1Khz)
DC resistance : 30 Ohm
Impedance : 30 Ohm (purely ohmic)
Compliance : 10 x 10-6 cm/dyne, 100Hz
Vertical tracking angle : 20°
Tracking force : 1,25g (± 0,25g)
Stylus tip : 0,1mm square nude diamond,
0,2 x 0,7 mil elliptical
Effective moving mass : 0,23mg
weight : 6g.
