A superb pair of Albarry M608s for sale.

The new updated version of these legendary mono-blocks. These were bought ex-demo last year and are in exceptional condition. The sound is very dynamic, full-bodied and clear, with a way of evoking tonal colour that is rare in solid-state designs. They also look fantastic in deep burgundy red (see pictures below).

They put out 60W in to 8 Ohms but almost double that into 4 Ohms, so they are capable of driving very difficult loads. At the same time, their clarity and refinement is such that they work well with very sensitive speakers.

I’m selling these for £1495, which is half the new retail price of £2995. They come with the original box and can be shipped in the UK or Internationally. Please pm me with your address for a shipping quote.

I'm including both outdoor and indoor shots here. The outdoor ones give a lovely sense of the colour but you might find the reflections distracting. The indoor ones have less reflections, but don't quite get the vivid colour.

Why the F*** are you selling them? I'm not saying you can't better them, but IMO you'd have to add a substantial amount to £3K to get anything remotely 'better' and even then, you'd be paying for the casework instead of internal ability methinks..

Apologies for being naive and possibly ignorant here..

You may well ask Dave. I certainly wouldn't expect to better them at a price I can afford, but there has been a seismic event in my listening room which demands a complete change of strategy. The arrival of some Klipsch La Scalas, of such surpassing ginormity and sensitivity that it would be rude not to try an OTL, flea-powered SET, or other such delicacies.

These are available for demonstration in South London. I will also be in Leeds later in the week.

AMENDMENT: I'm downgrading this to an INTEREST CHECK since they are driving my new Klipsch La Scalas beautifully. (I didn't expect they would be suitable for 104dB speakers but they work remarkably well with the DAX Discrete Variable).

A wise decision. You don't get much better than Albarry - valve or SS and they are quiet, so you won't get nasty noises through your Klipsch.

Andrew, nice to know that there is another pair of La Scalas in South West London - such versatile and fun speakers- I am told they love OTLs but anything seems to drive them - I expect the Albarrys are good at controlling the big woofers

Nothing wrong with using biggish power amplification with sensitive speakers as long as the noise levels are low.

I used a 220 watt power amplifier with big horn speakers of 102db sensitivity and it was a good combination. Mind you, I couldn't turn it up much without the whole house shaking to its foundations.

Far better than a noisy, low powered, valve amp.

I was just reading an interesting article about casework - this designer put identical components in differing cases, this was his conclusion;

Early on I had prototypes in aluminium cases, I then made a similar case from acrylic and compared the sound quality. Everything inside the two cases was exactly the same and I couldn’t believe the difference in sound quality; I much preferred the acrylic case.

The Albarry's look gorgeous in acrylic too.

Interestingly Richard Dunn of NVA came to the same conclusion some years ago re casework. Also the old Mitchell (Trichord) amps were largely acrylic cased. There were rumours of return to production of the mono blocks a couple years ago but nothing has come of it to date.

Yet some of the finest amps out there have all-metal casework - IMO.. and heat sinks need to be made of metal I believe. Acrylic is nice looking and possibly cheaper?????

I doubt the acrylic fronts on the Albarry's offer anything sonically, but they do look lovely at night with that warm red glow, so far I haven't found a speaker Albarry's couldn't drive, I hope they make your La Scala's sing.

I've been a fan of Albarry kit for years and IMHO they are are stunning amplifiers (hence why I bought the lot) and great VFM.

enjoy your music

regards Al

Actually I think the acrylic Mitchell use is more expensive than most metal casings. Maybe one piece castings are rather more expensive.

Ok I'm putting these back up and I'm sure I'm definitely going to sell them now.

Paul (Reffc) was going to buy them but I wavered - I just couldn't let them go when it came to the crunch, so I found him another pair somewhere else to buy. He is delighted with them, as some of you may have read.

Then I decided I would sell them and had another buyer, but he has been forced to pull out. So I'm certain now that I do want to sell. I promise! Lovely though they are...

Incidentally they make a great match with a Music First Copper Pre. Really controlled and direct with great presence and natural micro-detail.

Hi Andrew,
I thought you might like the photos from your OP copied here, just to remind people what lovely things these beasties are.
Good luck with the sale.

I currently use a similar pair in my system. Best amps I've ever used...not too "hi-rez" which many can be these days...more a full bodied rich midrange presentation with no shortage of bass or detail. Great amps...good luck with the sale Andrew.
