Hi, i registered here ages ago but tend to use other forums more.
Started looking around this forum again and thought i'd re-introduce myself.

A few will probably know me from audiotalk, and marco, if you remember, i met you at owston in 2008. I had a very heavyweight slate lenco at the time (won a nice award that weekend too :) ).

Anyhow, all my kit is DIY and currently consists of...

Rega apheta cartridge (made by my wife:smoking:)
Home made air tangent tonearm
technics sl120 motor bolted to lump of ply
WD phonoIII valvo phono clone with all boutique components
Stepped attenuator VC
Heavily modified WD kel84 with leak OPTX's
technics slp1200 cd player
10" tannoy hdp's in diy rear loaded horn/TL cabinets

Currently, apart from the speakers, it all looks like arse, but ill worry about how it looks once ive finished tweeking it. I keep on modifying and improving untill i run out of affordable ways for me to improve it.

Its all been boxed up for the last 15 months due to a house move, but im currently unpacking it, repairing the bits that got broken, and putting stuff into rough mdf boxes as with 3 cats and 2 dogs all the exposed high voltage was getting a bit troublesome :lol:.

I'd post pics, but as i say, it looks terrible. Might have a pic of the tannoys i could link.... Ill go check.

I like people with non descript "looking like arse" systems as there is no scope for willy waving as in *my systems is more expensive than yours* type of crap..well done man..

I couldnt afford this hobby otherwise!

Ive no interest in comercial high end hifi, or even kits really as its way out of my budget.

Doesnt mean bad sound though, ive maybe £2500 in my system and ive not heard anything i'd swap it for and ive heard alot of very expensive kit and lovely diy gear.

I guess thats because the entire system has been built around itself so it all works well together and has been built/voiced to suit my ears :)

Don't worry Graeme some of my worse systems have been the most expensive. I totally refuse to buy modern commercial equipment these days. However a lot of people need those expensive items with the name tag.

All the best systems ive heard have been DIY, and usualy very expensive, but as they were built to please their owners ears and not mine, i still wouldnt have swapped.
Apart maybe for a guy i knows 833A amps which are very good indead!!

Further to this, I found the other forum in question not to be at all friendly in comparison to this one :( I introduced myself as a new user and no administrator or owner bothered to say hi, so doubt I'll be going back there in a hurry!

Its not the busiest of forums, ive always found it friendly though, and imensly helpfull.

Hello from a new member. You've piqued my interest! I would love to see some DIY pics ... especially as I am too nervous to get my hands dirty - ok too nervous that I am going to screw it up.
I am also a member on a couple of other forums, but this one is the most interesting to me.
