Interesting to see the Technics mentioned. I bought a clapped out Garrard Zero100 and what should I find but a Technics EPC205 in it. I had one in the 70s and I loved it. At least I think it was that number!! The mind is failing . Is that the one that had the rave reviews back then?? If so, I'm a bit chuffed. If not, I'm still a bit chuffed as this one sounds terrific!! You can get generic stili for around £30, so I will try not to let someone destroy this one.
You lucky lucky bastard.
Yup. Thats the beauty. Mk4 was the best but all stonking. Avoid the aftermarket stylus replacement. Get it retipped if necessary. And be careful - they are fragile a beauty Gordon

Sat down fro the first time for ages and put a record on the TT. As the Technics 205 is now installed, I expected a slight change from the Goldring Elan:lol:.
Was there?? Yes there was. One of my old faves is the Rodrigo/Bacarisse pairing by Cubedo on Contour. I just sat and got lost. The interplay between guitar and orchestra, especially woodwind, was magical and Cubedo brings out the Spanish in the music like no other guitarist seems to manage (strangely, he is Spanish!!) The 205 just lets the music through. The details are there if you want to look for them but the overall effect was just so involving that I wasn't looking.
I have the same recording on CD and good though it is, I tend to be more into the sound instead of the music. I'll take the vinyl version please Mister:cool:
