We're having a barbeque for my children (who are 18 and 21) and my parents. Last time Dad was here I was dusting off the hifi and getting stuff mended and mentioned the F5. This is my dad the Bush radiogram man. "I don't suppose I'd hear any difference now". He is 78.

I have his old copy of David Oistrach playing the Bach Double violin concerto on DG. He is inside, now live 6.27 tuesday, at our barbeque, and asked if he could listen to it to the end. With wet eyes. His favourite record cleaned up (with a bit of work) to absolutely silent perfect, and sounds SOOOO beautiful on the FX3 Integral setup. Made an old man very very happy indeed :)

I guess Françoise Hardy would bring a lump to the throat of most old men.

Bit moist eyed myself. Realise in the emotion this may have been an obscure thread title. Marco persuaded me to get the Moth RCM which scrubbed up the old vinyl...

Yes - an RCM is an essential piece of kit for anyone with a record collection of, say, 200 records or more.

An RCM is definitely next on my list of purchases :)

An RCM is definitely next on my list of purchases :)

Scott Nangle (daytona600) does them for £70 Dave, I bought one from him but yet to use it as he said best to do about 20 records at a time.

And, before anyone jumps in here I'm a satisfied customer with absolutely no connection to the guy.

Just to add i only borrowed a Mk.II Spin Clean Record Cleaner yesterday see what they were like, i'm suprised how effective these simple cleaners are..I don't want a bit expensive machine & i think this little cleaner maybe on my shopping list, it certainly does the trick..

Of course, for the full effect, in addition to an RCM, and the Marco "extra deep clean", you need a very special treasured recording of someones favourite piece of music, a very special gramophone to play it on, and a very special Dad to listen to it. (And as a bit of icing on the cake, my son, who I have struggled with at times, bringing his "bird" round unbidden. Delightful girl - far too good for him.

The old man kept on about it at the table "When I closed my eyes and listened, I would hear something and look up expecting to see the musician playing there..."

It's these special moments of wonder which are so nourishing for the soul ;)
