Hello everyone. On Sunday of this week my CD player was completely dead when I fired it up. A routine check of the IEC plug revealed it was OK as was the mains fuse. I took the lid off the CD player only to find that the internal 'T' type, slow blow 1A, 250V fuse had blown. I replaced it with another only to see a blue flash from the new fuse when I switched the unit back on. Any thoughts...?

Sounds like a rectifier or regulator device failed dead short causing the fuse to blow - I'm assuming the power supply is linear as opposed to switched mode.

I can only recommend troubleshooting as per normal practice with a check with a multimeter of the rectifier and regulator devices before powering up again - obviously don't attempt this unless you are qualified and certainly unplug the unit from the mains before performing any exploratory or repair work. You will ideally also need the circuit diagram of the power supply.
