headphone rewire

yesterday i sat in the sun listening to i pod/headphone combo......unfortunately the weather was fabulous i consumed far too much booze and at one point stood on the headphone wire whilst attempting to stand up. i seem to have killed the right channel. Of course being pished at this stage i decided I could resolve the matter with a Swiss army knife.

Well after much faffing about I have established both drivers are OK.

The headphones are superlux 668b nothing exotic but i would like to rewire and have cables emerge from each phone as their is space to accommodate.

do i need to have static collar or take preventions when wiring up to the drivers

my soldering experience runs to you tube videos and the occasional practice in pieces of wire.

can someone recommend a decent headphone cable and where to get it.

also a 6.3mm plug that i can utilise of reasonable quality but easy to work with.

I am thinking about 1.5 m overall and using a 6.3-3.5mm converter so I can use them on portable players and my head phone amp if need be.

Its my first go at this so any advice even the most basic will be greatly received.

I have re-wired 2 pairs of Superlux 681's (you may have seen the thread on Rock Grotto some years ago?) I have re-wired them with a separate wire for each earpiece. Make sure you use something not too thick, 5 - 6mm should be fine, it should be flexible as a stiff cable is not good (I made that mistake initially) Worth doing IMO.

Tony, I cannot link to the site as I was banned! Sadly I did not commit any heinous or shocking misdemeanour to warrant such. All I did was join another headphone based forum started by a former member of rockgrotto. None so strange as folk...as they say:scratch:

I did have some pics I took of the mods, but sadly these were lost when my harddrive died a couple of years ago.

All you need to bear in mind when adding a second lead is that the wiring on the earpiece that does not have the lead attached is different and the new lead needs to be soldered to that driver in the same way as the one that carries the lead.

You then need to solder both + & - & earth leads to your Jack plug.

had a wee cheapo phono -3.5mm lead in the box of spares.....soldered it up this all the skill of an an eeijit loaded up on pain meds and drink that i shouldnt be mixing. got the buggers working for a bit......will pursue bernies path when i am more compus mentus ( my wife was none too happy me trying to solder things shit faced) ah the joy of a herniated disk in ma back and too many meds........thanks any hows gents!!!!!

had another go this morning striped the cans back to the driver assembly.....crimped on my 3.5 mm /phono lead (with phonos cut off) seems to have worked out fine ,wont win any beauty competitions but happy for a first attempt.
will go down the route bernie sign posted to and try to make up something a bit more aesthetically pleasing and hopefully a sonic upgrade to boot.
