Hi there,

My name is Ben, originally from the East of England I now live in the southwest of Ireland.

I don't have a particularly good grounding in HiFi.

My first and only setup (now in the loft and has been for some years) was a yamaha av receiver and technics cheap cd player sold to me by University HiFi or whatever they were called in Cambridge about 15-16 years ago, the bloke said it was the best HiFi experience to be had? my budget wasn't that small either.

So, that is why I am here to try and learn a bit about HiFi before I have another go when money allows, although I might just have to go for budget stuff anyway!

I would dearly like to get into vinyl again after getting rid of it in a rage some years ago!

So hopefully this satisfies the requirement for a greeting?

Looking forward to chatting to you guys in the coming months/years....

Ben.

Hello Ben and welcome to AoS :)

Dive in and we'll try to help. What kind of music do you like to listen to?

Welcome to AoS Ben.

Yes, please do tell us what your musical tastes are, and what it is you are looking for to play vinyl.

As Martin has said: "dive in" - we won't bite, though I should warn you, we love to 'spend other peoples money for them'.

Enjoy the Forum.

Hi Martin/Barry,

Many thanks for the welcome.

As for music taste.....it is a rather mixed bag, from ac/dc through to the prodigy via Mozart, billy fury, jazz and blues, I suppose I don't have a particular taste I don't like heavy metal/rock but do like ac/dc I like a lot of 50's/60's but not all. I imagine my taste or lack looks like a complete car crash, and don't start psychoanalysing my choices for goodness sake....you would probably end up in a padded cell haha!

I have probably rambled on for far too long so will stop now.

Ben.

Hi Barry,

Yes, I would love to get in to vinyl again, just don't know whether I can afford to yet.

Ben.

welcome

when your ready to look for a system i wanted to say
You can get second hand record players on ebay cheaply
l.p's you can buy at charity shops.
you can get some decent amps and speakers for not that much
rogers ls4a would go with your music and can be had on ebay for £50-£120
a second hand nad amp and cd player are cheap enough second hand, say £200.
nad sounds good with the music you like as i have owned a nad amp before and i like alot of the music you listed.
in fact i have a nad c520 cd player that i bought for £45
i'm more then happy with it.
i'm not saying that you can not get better but buying budget does not mean you can not have good sound :)

LOL - everyone's tastes can look like a car crash if sufficiently analysed!

Mine certainly does, so don't worry Ben.
