View Full Version : My piano - and other musical animals
I absolutely love playing the Piano (it's a great release from the day job I guess) but find it's such a wonderfully photogenic bit of kit, it does deserve a piccie taken of it every so often...

Very nice. I only have a Kawai digital piano and that's had to go into storage to make space for my daughters stuff. The goal now is get a place big enough for both of them and replace with an upright! Good excuse is the daughter can learn on it too :)

Nice piano. Er - and very clean :) I don't think I'll post a piccie of our Yamaha Clavinova. Sounds very good - very practical option in the dining room, but we have teenagers, and it needs a dust. Mind - its the missus plays it. I prefer plucking my twanger(s) I have an electric and acoustic. Just so you can all get the joke, and assuming you are of a certain age, and had children - watch the rainbow clip. It's not dubbed - they did it as a private xmas special for the crew :)

My three kids all passed their Grade 7 so far, but I was never good at playing a musical instrument. But I do have to put up with a piano tuba, cornet, trumpet, violin, and a few flutes.
My youngest son (14yrs old) wrote a musical piece that got played in a concert last week. He seems to be good at music, but hardly ever bothers to practice .
Beautiful things to behold, Richard, and for me far more worthy than any high-end hi-fi equipment. Treasure them, as I know you will :)
Oh, and one other thing... Baby, you take some mothafukka peachy-keen sexy-ass photos!! :respect:
Marco.

Why thank you sweetcheeks. :D
It's very true what you say re the 'real thing' vs high-end hifi stuff. I'm no great pianist (far from it) and only really use ours for teaching/accompanying and enjoying some 'me time' every now and again. But, the sound it's possible to get from a good piano - even a large upright - makes the air fizz in a way that I've never heard from any hifi system.
Our Emma - she's only 2 but already has a great ear. I tend to play along whilst she sings stuff like Twinkle Twinkle etc, then I'll modulate up a third (for example) and she'll follow me and sing bang-on pitch. When doing so, you won't hear her 'searching' for the next interval as she already has the next note in her head. It's a joy, I can tell you. :)

Far too hot to do some practice so I'll just take some photos instead...

I've only just stumbled on this thread Richard, those pictures are glorious, thanks for sharing. I particularly like the one with Emma at the keys - my parents weren't musical at all and I have no idea where my interest comes from, but I dearly wish they had been. Had that been so, I maybe could have been playing something since Emma's age? It must make you feel very proud :)
Thanks Tim - you're very kind. :)
As to learning an instrument, it's never too late. After nearly 30 years as a professional Clarinettist, in a moment of madness the other week I decided to buy a nice used Yamaha flute with the intention of teaching myself to play it. Most fun I've had in ages...although it's a good job our nearest neighbours are over 30 yds away as it sounds utterly dreadful. :D

Wow Richard, this really is musical porn!

LOL thanks! :)
Unfortunately we've managed to lose the upright combined Clarinet/Sax stand which would make taking photos if it a lot easier, saves laying it down (which doesn't do it a lot of good anyway).
