Why is it, that sandwiches cut into triangles always seem to taste better than those cut into squares? Or is it just me (some wag will say something now)?

I don't know the answer but you're right

I wonder if it would it have a bearing on the taste if the triangles were either Equilateral, Isosceles or Scalene...

Wazoo's First Law of Smellativity:
Triangular sandwiches taste better because the cut is across the hypotenuse of the triangle and therefore exposes more of the filling than if you cut them square. The smell of the filling is therefore stronger and because most of your sensation of a flavour comes from the smell, the sandwich tastes better.

You need a decent slice of bread for a chip butty - triangles don't do it!
Since the thread is about sandwiches I thought this might be appropriate ...

Probably "The Bermuda Triangle Effect".

Think it's just psychological.

Come on Geoff. Next you'll be saying cables magically have an effect on sound!

Have to say I always cut my sarnies into the triangular shape. Easier to eat to my mind.

Actually the shape of your sarnies affects how the music sounds as you eat. Not many people know this.

No, there was another one where she asserted the superiority of the three sided bread snack.

Unfortunately, no. Having a beer or two though.

Do people actually cut sandwiches ?

I use 2 slices of bread , bang in as much filling as you can get in with all the trimmings and toppings ,

Then try and get my mouth open far enough to take a bite :D

Pukka sarnie :eek::lol::lol:

Indeed, and the shape (and size) of your head affects this, too.

Absolutely - triangular sandwiches taste much better. As does a Scotch Egg cut into quarters - much more flavoursome than chomping the whole shebang. :)

Triangular? Nah! Poncey - you want a full round triple decker Scooby-Doo style sandwich - jam and peanut butter - if you are poor you can live off them, I speak from experience.

Best way to have a scotch egg is to cut it in half, take the egg out, bung mustard mayonaise in the hole and put the egg back in, top with more mustard mayo and finish with a bit of cress and white pepper. Tesco organic scotch eggs off the deli counter are rather tasty.

Triangular sandwich portions aside. Have you noticed how some people cut rolls in half? I've never seen the point, rolls are perfect to eat as they are, whether round or long.

With respect, the angle of cut (or whether to cut at all) is not the real issue affecting sandwiches. I think in a double blind test, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference:)

The real thing is surely the insistence on putting bloody lettuce and other related crap into otherwise respectable foodstuffs. It is uncalled for.

Grown men do not need colour interest in their food and, as any fule kno, salad is the work of Satan.

Why can we not buy a sarnie which is simple and straightforward?

And don't get me going on why people feel the need to dump a load of cress on a plate by the steak.:steam: I mean, really!

I actually like salad. A tuna or egg salad is delicious!

And, I don't eat steak (or pork or lamb). I'm not vegetarian, I just don't like red meat. A bit of poultry or fish suits me.

Au contraire - Scotch eggs are best served cut in half and au naturel (that is, no mustard mayonnaise, Hollandaise sauce or any other dressing!)

Can you really beat a fried egg sarnie with a touch of brown sauce and white pepper, cut into two (triangles)?

What about a fried eggy bread sausage sarnie & brown sauce. Must admit I do like good sausages, about the only red meat I'll eat.

Just pondering tomorrow's treat.

Fried chicken & mushroom, toasted wholemeal bread sarnie sounds good, maybe a touch of oyster sauce, chilli and black pepper on the chicken before I fry it (in maize oil & butter). A smudge of mild continental mustard on top I think, Polish or French.

I found a couple of scotch eggs in the fridge today, so I sliced them and put them in a good granary bap from the local baker, all topped off with a good helping of Hellmans mustard mayo and pepper. My god that was nice!
