Hi Ron hope you are keeping well.
I heard one of these (it was a mk1) once and despite a lot of trying I was unable to get it to work well. I think that the current delivery wasn't very good. My gut feeling is that specs with these should be treated with caution and the partnering speakers need to be a very easy load, in fact perhaps easier than might initially be thought based on the power spec alone.
One thing that I didn't like was the build quality was somewhat light weight (imho) and there wasn't a lot of weight in the transformers and even trying a pre into it (could be used as a passive integrated or a power amplifier) didn't work much better.
I could however hear glimpses of something lovely but failed to find a good match speaker wise so gave up.
However I have seen and heard Wavac at numerous shows and they sounded very good, so I guess with all things its just a question of synergy and getting it right. In my view though it may be too much of a risk to buy any of these blind and re sale might be hard.
Regards Neil

Thanks,
I have not heard one but saw one once and it left a mark on me, the build quality was sublim and at 40lb weight was heavy enough for a 10w amp, second hand resale is one thing these are superb for they dont last anymore than 1 day in any for sale forum, ebay or dealers for that matter, i have been looking for ages and every time one comes up its sold within hours. Everyone i have asked that has one ( very few admittedly) are keeping and none are unhappy with sound, build or reliability
one guy runs tannoys with these and is more than happy. Horses for courses but us lot in NI dont have the luxury of trying before we buy unless its anything the 1 0r 2 local dealers have actually in stock with is limited to the usual naim, rega, arcam fare.
thanks for the input

At one time the then UK distributor was selling off his stock pretty reasonably, I don't think they are imported into the UK,
perhaps victim of the CE regulations, remembering hearing the Wavac 833 compared to another 833 and although both shared the characteristics of the valve the Wavac was more coloured of the two.
Not much help, sorry.
Keith.

No worries Keith, they are still imported into uk, spoke to dealer today and these are now £7990 new :0
None come up second hand and everyone he has sold over the years have remained with the original owners, sort of speaks volumes bit like the glasshouse I'm also after. Can't prise these off the owners and hi fi collective wont make me one.
Could go for an OTO
Will see what comes up, thought I would be inundated with offers but very few
Cheers anyway
