OK now we have that out of the way and thank you all for the kind comments......

.....I have managed to find a direct drive motor and bits on French eBay. Rigged it up to test and its fine, dead steady speed and sounds pretty good even with a naff arm. However, here comes the twit bit, I managed to mount the lamp for the strobe too close to the table and it ground the top off!! No lamp!

I need to find a replacement please, any ideas what I need. Obviously 50htz but it also need to run very cool etc etc. Its from a Sansui FRD33 or 35 not sure as I can't read the writing under the platter!!

Remember I have no technical knowledge whatsoever so its suck and see time as usual.

Hello Gordon my friend, you numpty.

Did the original lamp have an orange glow to it (before it was decapitated). If so it was almost certainly a neon bulb.
I have some in a draw, I'll send you one, along with the mains out socket I haven't got around to sending.

:cool:Alan

Hi Alan,

You got me in one!!! It was indeed a nice orange glow that it used to have. I have just downloaded the specs and it says.....

....01uF 150V.

Thank you my friend

Do you spend all day watching the speed, just in case it changes???

Twould be nice but I haven't had the chance yet. The problem with adjustable speeds is that I have no idea if the setting is right to start with. I will have drag out my clamp again. It is also nice to have pretty lights to stare at:)

I know I said I wouldn't do kiss and tell, but arthur calibrates his tt's with photocopies of a gl75 strobe. Do you think I should lend him my original?

But Marco, I always just drive straight through them without noticing.......its my age you know.

My likkle orange light is shining again thanks to Firebottle. I reckon he could open a spare parts store for the whole of France:)
