Fabulous build ken.
Good move with the vents and possible gassing of the SLAs.

Just for others, you should NEVER charge a sealed lead acid battery in an air tight enclosure.
Although it is often thought the vents are for release of gas under fault conditions, a small amount of Hydrogen is released on every charge.

A test was being performed in a parking lot at a sister company to the one I worked at.
Venting of the case was ....shall we say 'omitted'. (The designers forgot ) The small amount of Hydrogen released was enough to form an explosive mixture. Yes you've seen it coming...........

There was an internal spark from a relay contact or something and the unit blew half way across the parking lot

Fortunately nobody was close at the time.

Alan - Didn't realize gassing was such a problem.
Manufacturers talk about gas re absorbtion and the like.

Good job I put them in (vents), thanks for the heads up.
