Yes but how did you do it ?
Thanks for posting that.
highlight the address, right click and press copy. then go to where you want to put it, right click and press paste. a string will appear and the software here will alter it to correct form if its a link... a email address as such is copied and pasted same way. if you usually use right button then you would use the left.

Some may remember this turning day and night with a monkey on top in my Radlett shop. I still, occasionally, have customers who remember it from when their Mums used to stop their buggy out side to watch the monkey spinning round.
That turntable ran day and night for over 20 years with just an occasional drop of oil and still has the original belt.
Nice old Michell by looks. Not seen a monkey on one tho...:eyebrows: they made some iconic decks

I have a pair of Sonus Faber Venere 2.5 for sale at less than trade price - in fact they are half price.
Usual price, if you go elsewhere, is £2898 in beautiful Walnut. This pair is only £1449 and that is for a pair of speakers which are virtually unused. They have had an absolute maximum of 30 minutes use, so they are as new with full packaging etc.
So, for the price of a budget speaker, you could have a beautiful pair of Sonus Faber.

I've got some more pics but as usual I have mucked them up and don't know why. They were all taken with flash but are too dark. I've inadvertently altered something.
might be able to improve them with my program if the quality is fine otherwise..ie focus and pixels still there

I hate this bloody Nikon. Every pic I take is a lottery - some are OK, most are naff and I have no idea why. Back in the good ol' days, I used a trusty Nikon F3 and that took great pics with rarely a duff one but this modern gizmo is beyond me. Too many menus and things to set up and adjust.
Mike Reed
12-09-2018, 13:35
.....but this modern gizmo is beyond me. Too many menus and things to set up and adjust.
I empathise (having a drawer full of Olympus upmarket SLRs and lenses). However, to my untrained eye, your pic is out of focus (hence looking grainy). Also, Dave, taking flash photos of valves is fraught with disappointment. Good daylight (but not sun) and no flash is preferable. I only have a Sony compact and can get pin-sharp, enlargeable pic's from it.
Oh, that looks interesting Dave, will be interesting to get your thoughts on it. Looks heavy!
You'd be better off with an iPhone than that camera by the looks of it.
hifi_dave
12-09-2018, 14:08
I couldn't do without a digital camera now as it's the only to get pics on forums and E-Bay. It's the complexity which baffles me. All those menus within menus. In this case I must have twiddled or clicked something or t'other so that the pics are too dark. I will post one in a mo, as an example.
I find the digital camera on the iPhone 6 is good enough for forums, eBay and the like and it's just point and shoot. Best with day light as Mike said. Primaluna photo taken using it below. That thing of yours sounds like a bit of a heartache, not good for the nerves or business!

The problem is the camera has (auto)focused on the rungs of the valve cage and not on the amp itself.

I'd say your camera is struggling to focus and meter in low light conditions. Your best bet is to use 'fill-in' flash all the time.

There are quite a lot of valves there :)
Looking at that makes me think of the recent Krell thread where many people commented on the inefficiency of class A amps and how hot they run. With most valve power amps much of the power consumed goes to the valve heaters and I'd guess that the overall efficiency and heat output of that Prima Luna and Bigman's Krell are quite similar - yet people accept it as a fact of life with valve amps and don't get too worried about it. Perhaps they should "chill out" about Krells too.
ok, I'll get me coat...
Yes but valves look nice, there's isn't much joy in looking at a stack of matt black fins ....
Yes but valves look nice, there's isn't much joy in looking at a stack of matt black fins ....
My monoblock power amps are hidden behind the speakers. :)
It'll certainly add some (much needed?) character to many speakers connected to it. Very many happy owners around and about internationally and I think this brand has its own dedicated Facebook page too ;)
I've thoroughly enjoyed mine. It's a great music maker, works for me :)

With EL34 as fitted, it is good for 70 wpc into 8 ohms. You can fit all manner of output valves such as KT66, KT88, KT120, KT150 etc for a different presentation and greater output.Excellent. Truly versatile amp, then. A number of different amps in one, in reality, should one be prepared to invest in various possible valve configurations. Sonically more changeable than most valve power amps.
I had one on loan last Xmas for a few weeks, cracking amp, liked it so much I bought the power amp version after borrowing the pre/power combo a few days later.
Still looking to buy the matching pre but the shop are still asking too much for it.
The headphone section in the integrated is supposed to be excellent, never tried it myself.
I had all 3 amps here for about 8-10 weeks due to the Xmas holidays and even my wife said just to buy whichever one I liked ( she loved the sound from them as well). So I thought might as well go pre power as it was better than the integrated, but I must admit if I'd only heard the integrated then I would have bought that.
Here's a photo of them when they were here, as well as the review from HiFi World.
My back took some punishment with those I can tell you.
Dave, hope you don't mind me posting this.
Mike.

Just realised I've been a bit remiss, posting on this blog, just two posts in nine months and there has been a lot going on and new products have arrived.
Two weeks into the first lockdown and nothing happening business wise, I thought 'this is it', the end of everything but things picked up. Since then it has been getting busier and busier as people want something to do whilst in lockdown or under restrictions and what better to do than play your Hi-Fi and spend the money you would have spent on holidays and going out for meals, on upgrades.
Turnover has gone up and I know that most of the companies I work with are 50-60% up on the previous years, particularly Rega, Croft, Harbeth, EAR and luxman. Good to see but just now there are beginning to be problems with supply of components and delivery times have increased. Perspex, for instance, used for turntable lids, is to be found in every shop and office in the land and so supplies are running out. Hopefully, things will get back to normal soon.
Through the less restricted times last year, I was doing socially distanced demonstrations but lately it has been mostly mail order and lending equipment to customers, for a few days, allowing them to make a decision. Seems to work well.
I will post about the new goodies as soon as I can get round to it. Meanwhile - stay safe.

Some new products have arrived recently, which are rather interesting.
First is the PMC Twenty5 i series of speakers. Huge sound with their ATL driver loading and extremely dynamic.
Next are two new products from Hegel. Their budget H95 integrated amp with a minimum of 60wpc/8 ohms at £1600 has been very popular and their very comprehensive new and first phono stage the V10 has stirred some interest. MM/MC with just about every conceivable loading option is £1350. Good reviews of both products in the Hi-Fi press.
Rega have a new and rather innovative bookshelf speaker, the Kyte, in gloss black at £499. Typical Rega - clean, fast and fun.
If I can get the hang of Flickr again, I will post some pics.

More items to come including Radford power-amps, pre and tuner.
Hope the new D-60 owner likes this little amp - it really is seriously good if 50WPC typical is enough and was pretty much state of the art when I started out at one of the three only domestic dealers in the UK stocking and selling the brand. Nigh on fifty years on, it still 'measures' better than many domestic 'enthusiast' amp brands and I never found it had any 'sonic character' at all, just adapting to the sources and preamps feeding it upstream. Love mine - and somehow I've five of them, two sets bridged!!!
Full manuals on the Crown site still.

Yes, they are wonderful amps. I have the D60, D150 and DC 300A and all are excellent, as good as the day they were made.
Next up for sale is the D150. I was listening to it this afternoon and it is really good. Cosmetically there are some marks but for it's age it's in good nick. Looking for offers.

That would be me Dave - and thanks to the other Dave for selling it to me.
The Crown (before they changed their name to Amcron) D60 was the amp coverted by me in my student days. I liked the slim profile, but couldn't afford one. I also coveted the IC-150 preamp to go with it, but both were way out of my budget. Later I coveted the Cambridge Audio P40 and P50 amps, again for their slim profile, but by that time I had been seduced by Class A circuitry and built my own amps, including a clone of the Sugden design.
I haven't decided what to do with the D60: maybe use it in a separate system, or maybe use it as a headphone amplifier.
hifi_dave
21-02-2022, 11:49
I lusted after a Crown/Amcron amp, many years ago. I was saving like mad for a DC300A and an IC150 but never managed to afford them. I downgraded my desire to the D150 but never got that either. Now I have both and can confirm how good they are.
The D60 does make an excellent headphone amp.
That would be me Dave - and thanks to the other Dave for selling it to me.

I haven't decided what to do with the D60: maybe use it in a separate system, or maybe use it as a headphone amplifier.
I bought an early D-150 to 'augment' my inherited bridged D-60's as bridging them, makes the sound a touch 'looser' into the porty boxes I use and the 150 (as does my stereo 60 as you've bought) keeps the sound tight and better controlled as befits an amp with very low output impedance. If to be used as a headphone amp (the D-40 was definitely used as such back in the day but I don't know this one as we never sold them), use gain controls at ten o'clock or so and be very careful, as there are no padding resistors in series (or as a proper L-Pad) with the output and it's easy to deafen yourself with full clean power (too lazy to work out the output into say, 60 ohms), but the huge upside is no audible hiss (when my ears were better than today) into moderately efficient 'phones.
Used with moderate efficiency speakers, a D-60 goes all the way cleanly until it 'farts....' No change in tone but the 45 - 50W limit is reached without drama as the tone doesn't change with loudness as it can with some amps I can think of. It never sounds 'loud' if you see what I mean (neither does the DC300A by the way until you need to shout to talk to someone else in the room...). Got to say here and now and IC-150 driven, I don't reach my stereo D-60's limit with the Spendors and Harbeths, but I can't play loud in any case and my shot hearing makes it unpleasant above a certain moderate level (how the mighty fall eh, after once owning 115dB-in-room big ATC's and loving the experience when neighbours were out?). I still use an old D-150 or equivalent freshly restored HH VX300 amp, the former easily reproducing the differences in recordings while seemingly adding little if anything of its own - runs all but cold too unlike the HH, which gets rather warm on the heat-sinks.
Hope you like it and can find 'room' for it in your gear-stash :)

I am about to list a pair of Radford MA25 mono block valve amps on E-Bay.
Needless to say, these amps are extremely rare and extremely good. I last used them around 3 years ago, before they went into storage, when they were sounding sweet, open and wonderful as you would expect from Radford. They will need a thorough clean up and maybe a service but all appears intact with KT66 valves.
Any interest, please contact me radlettaudio@hotmail.co.uk for more info and pics.

Do any of you guys use or want to use the Goldring G800 cartridge ? They used to be a well kept secret for those in the know.
Anyway, I have found 6 of them in my cupboard of interesting 'bits'.
Anyone interested, they will be £40 each which is the average E-Bay sold price.

I have practically everything from the Croft Acoustics range in stock. All of it is unused except for being sat on shelving and some is brand new/sealed boxes.
If you are looking for an item for a system or to complete a system, please make contact by e-mail. Prices are discounted so please be quick because there is a lot of interest.

Thanks lads. Slowly on the mend but it has been a nightmare, espicially when the meds overdosed me with various Opioids. Never. Guessed what they could but 5 days of paranoid have shown the power.
