Let's hear from all the dad's on AoS and how they've been spoiled today by their kids, or how indeed you've spolied your own dad! :)

My parents are coming over today for lunch, and this is the menu, which I've typed up for dad, as a souvenir:


Father’s Day, 16th June 2013.

Luncheon Menu.

Entrée:

Sole meunière with hand-dived Anglesey scallops, accompanied by fresh samphire and capers.


Vegetarian option (for Del) :

Stuffed courgettes with ricotta and sage ‘al forno’.

Le Plat Principal:

Pan-fried Gloucester ‘Old Spot’ organic pork chops in a Dijon mustard and gherkin sauce, topped with caramelised apples and served with a selection of fresh seasonal vegetables.

Vegetarian option:

Baked aubergine à la Parmigiana.

Le Dessert:

Classic mousse au chocolat, topped with a candied orange gratin, accompanied by an individual pot of organic summer fruits, covered in a light citrus glaze.

Accompanying wines:

White:

Stormhock Chardonnay/Viognier 2011, South Africa.

Red:

Bourgueil 'Les Gadeliéres' 2011, France.
Saint-Émillion Château Fleur Lescure 2009, France.

Dessert wine:

Muscat de Frontignan (César Brezillou).

A very simple egg and cheese salad with minted new spuds but.......

.....all fresh from the garden except the cheese!! Every time I have to get fruit and veg from the supermarkets - even here - I weep for the lack of flavour and crap textures. When its fresh from the ground this morning, the flavours just burst in the mouth. The spuds are beyond wonderful, just the mint and sloshed around in butter. My mouth is watering, must go and make it.

Yup even today I have to do all the work, its a hard life:( (but Ronnie did tend them and dig them up and feed and water the chickens so I spose I can't complain)

However, my nephew is coming over on Tuesday and he is treating us at the local gordon blue restaurant :)

Foreign gear? It's ALL local Welsh produce, daftee, and some of it from our own garden! The only thing that's (partly) foreign is the description ;)

I always did prefer cats and wimmin. I won't say my wife feels the same as her likes are not 'quite' the same as mine:eyebrows:

I don't have children of my own but my Wife's children always thank me at this time for the care and direction that I have given them over the past 10 years; for the roof over their heads, the food and clean clothes that have always been provided when their birth father couldn't be bothered to do anything more for them than visit fast-food joints and buy computer games on the days he had them.
For all the parents evenings that I attended, the school and college visits to support them in times of trouble and all the times I dropped them off and picked them up from places when 'Dad' couldn't be ar*ed to get out of his bed.

You've guessed; it was sarcasm ;)
I have come to expect nothing from them so that I am never disappointed.

The eldest went before 18 as he kept saying how much better it was at his Dad's, but this one is hanging around and thinks he will for a while but he can go live with his Father when he is 18 too.

There he sits clicking on that computer; no interest, no personality and no social skills...
Some may say that is a typical t eenager, whereas I would say that it is a chip off the old block - someone else's block.
Not even sure that he could even be bothered to get his own father a card....


On a more positive note I dropped a card in to my Father on Friday and will drop in the Slim Whitman album that I bought for him tomorrow. Didn't see him today as it was church then a visit to my Sister's for him that is not me.

This is one of those highly acerbic posts that I should have maybe written then deleted but crikey do I feel better for letting all that resentment out :thumbsup:

And on that note I wish all Fathers be they birth or step a very happy day today :cool:

I hate all that special day crap. The people I care about are special all year round and I expect to treat them as such! And vice versa.

So it's got bugger all to do with Father's Day, but as we're swapping menus, I'll let you know what I'll be eating later this evening:
Linguine with with asparagus, shitake mushrooms, shallots, lemon and chives and a rather fantastic looking piece of local rump steak, dry aged for 26 days.

The best thing I got was my 2nd lie-in of the year - I didn't get up 'til 8.30am! A few CDs from the Amazon wish list, and a Thorntons chocolate car which wife and kids have already got stuck in to! Dinner was a BBQ to include wife's step-dad - and even though it's father's day no one is going to wrestle the tongs from me when fire is involved so I was happy to cremate everyone's dinner for them! :D Then spent the next 3 hours blasting all sorts of music on the garden system for the enjoyment of the local community. Pretty sure the Police helicopter hovering overhead was just a coincidence... :lol: :scratch:

Took both mum and dad out for Sunday lunch today, they've been away on their hols so I hadn't seen em in ages. We don't go much for cards or sentimentality in our family but like to mark an occasion with a meal out instead. It was their 45th anniversary yesterday too.

I got an Amazon Kindle voucher off my daughter and the new Dan Brown hardback off my son. They know I am a big reader. The hug was more important!

My nephew came around during his French travels (photojournalist for one of the online car rags). We had intended to go out to eat but my wife decided that she would prefer a decent lump of fillet steak. Rare round here (sic) so we changed plans. There are two cooks in this household and as it was a father's day celebration, I cooked.

Though I says it myself what shouldn't, it was one of the best meals I can remember. The fillet was cut about 1" thick and after a quick blast was just so tender and melt in the mouth that I could have managed three. New spuds, shallots and peas from the garden with a red wine, mustard and black pepper sauce. Just so much more satisfying than eating out. Good wine, Tiramisu and some proper coffee. Had to buy the mushrooms, must have a word with the gardener.

He also left me a new computer screen and a Qwerty keyboard. I've been suffering a French one for some time, doubt my typing will be any more accurate but at least I don't have to guess which key does what any more.

Shame he couldn't stay longer but he's off North to cover LeMans week for his rag. I always found the 24 hours a bit boring, I can't imagine what the whole week would be like.
