Went to pick up a recent purchase

When at the sellers home I was offered a cup of tea , I accepted the offer and we started to chat about Hi Fi

Out of curiosity I asked " So why are you selling ? Are you upgrading ? "

I now only use BOSE was the reply followed by " It is the best you know "

I finished my tea and left with tongue in cheek :D No point in ruining his day :lol:

Yes that rings a bell with me too.
When I went to collect my speakers from the guy I bought them from he told me how he had spent a fortune importing them from Canada to his home in the Far East. This had come after a long period of auditioning Lord knows how many pairs of incredibly exotic speakers from all over the world. When he moved back to the UK, his wife persuaded him that the look of the (cavernous) living room was spoiled by the presence of the speakers. OK, they're big at almost five feet tall and two feet wide but they would have been lost in that room. After we carried them to the van I had hired, he confided to me that he was heartbroken to see them go but he was glad that he'd found something which his wife approved of to replace them. When I asked what the new speakers were he told me about 'those' ones - you know......the ones that look like furry dice!

Talking about really good compact surround systems, the best I've listened to were Tannoy Arena speakers driven by a modest Denon A/V amplifier. Gorgeous sound ! :stalks:

I have had the Bose demo at one of their shops, it played music and you can have the cinema sound experience as well. It did not rip my ears off and was good enough to impress the majority, clever marketing makes them very successful.

*yawn*, and yet another Bose bashing thread. I wonder why ppl are urged to publically make Bose the laughing stock. :scratch: If you don't like their products, move on. You can hardly blame a commercial enterprise for their marketing techniques. Bose is like the Glenfiddich of audioproducts.

Bose knows just too well that 95% of their potential target thinks Bose is the best money can buy and don't look any futher. If their customers are happy with the products they buy for the money they spent, there is little harm done to you right? Sure there are better products on the market, but also worse.

I wonder if people who post these things have actually heard the Bose speakers they make fun of or try to look audiophile by copying others.

These things are the bane of my life, my brother-in-law uses them, so his sister is convinced that they are all that is needed. Anything larger is totally unnecessary and untidy.

Oh I've heard them, and even had to sell them at one point. Like B&O in the past, potential buyers regard Bose as the best there is and the company excels at advertising, which takes a lot of the profit I understand.

I only ever heard one Bose product I liked and that was the original seventies 901 speaker. A spectacular sound, very live and monstrously potent and a real landmark product. A modern version would be something indeed.

Now seemingly, Bose pander to the mass 'pseudo quality' market. Money has to be made I suppose.

Had a close escape recently when I commented, out of interest, how interesting the Kef LS50 was and went to audition them with Mrs S. She had pretty much bought them on the grounds they were so pretty, even though she conceded they sounded a bit off in the shop (the dedicated listening room was shocking). Came home, sat her in front of the ventricals, and - I quote - "ok the ugly speakers are just too good"

AS part of one of my jobs, I had to persuade people to take one of those Bose Wave CD/Radio thingies as a gift!!! I was doing OK with one customer who then asked to hear it!! He was the first who didn't just say "ooohh yes please".

Needless to say, he had some other bits instead. I was the only salesman in the place who thought it was crap though, the others' expectations were entirely different. Lets face it, anyone who thinks one of these all in one USB deck.CD/Radio/cassette players would be pretty impressed with a Bose. Its a different market, no surprise that they advertise in 'Lifestyle' magazines not HiFi.

No. I don't think the ventricals ugly either. I have to concede scruffy in the case of mine. Anybody got any useful advice about giving them a rub down and respray. They are stained veneered mdf with some awkward fiddly bits. Seen so many resprayed speakers look like a dogs dinner afterwards.

The Cambridge Soundworks CD88 is far better sounding for an all in one radio but it didn't get the advertizing like the wave did.
I have always wanted to hear a Meridian /Ferrari table radio but they are nowhere to be found in my little world.

I have. They're crap. No insight, no detail, just a flat lifeless presentation with overblown bass to give the impression of substance. Why should we (a forum for audiophiles and music lovers) take the crap they sell to unsuspecting punters lying down when they could do so much better? In this case, public shaming is a public service.
