Hello all,

Why vinyl I asked myself, it's noisy, crackles, pops, skips, jumps and it's been where it belongs
in the attic for 30 years. ;)

Well it was until my daughter (asking on behalf of her husband) asks, "have you still got your old turntable "?
What do want that old tripe for I ask it's (see above). "Well we fancy getting some of the old records out and listening to them"

You must be mad say I. :mental: So doing the dutifull father bit, out comes the Pioneer PL12D, FF15E Mk11 cartridge.
And it's not in bad condition almost perfect. So plug it in and see, belts a bit slack, still got 1.9g on the stylus and it plays a record.

So after a good strip down and oiling, greasing, plugs and points changed including a new belt, a bit of serious
listening was done and the outcome reached.

Daughter can go find her own deck , what have I missed for 30 years all those crackles, pops skips jumps etc.
Absolute magic. So I've managed to find a Dual 505-1 and just finished servicing it and the question is which turntable
to let her have. I'm inclined to let her have the Pioneer as the Dual does have more "things to go wrong".

The rest of my system is a Sansui AU 2900 amp feeding a pair of Kenwood speakers.
The biggest problem I've encountered is where's my record collection gone?
Did the kids turn them into flower bowls? Blue Peter may have a lot to answer for.Can the BBC be sued?

Charity shops, boot sales here I must go hunting.

No doubt questions will be needed answering re the Dual but I have changed the capacitors in the motor feed.
The pitch belt is as good as new and the main belt I feel does need a change.

Welcome home vinyl.

Welcome to AoS. That's a good story!
So what sort of music will you be rediscovering on your odyssey?

Hi PeD,

Welcome to AoS, hope you enjoy your time with lots of music lovers. clicks, pops, scratches etc?, not found them really, I have however found the last 40 years of enjoying superbly engaging music on vinyl, whilst I appreciate some CDs and players can sound superb, I love the tactile involvement of the lp and the anticipatory lowering of the needle to the groove.

We will NEVER escape the fact we have analogue ears.

regards Al

Hi Peter, welcome to AOS ! :)

Yes, most important is the music, have a good record hunting : it's a rejuvenating activity, I believe. ;)

Hi Peter,

I used to own a Dual 601 Turntable a few years ago, gifted to me by my father. Whilst I've moved onto a Linn LP12 now, there's something I miss from that Dual.

Anyhow, welcome to the forum :)
