Just had a look at the track listing on Fireball, and it's the American release, which means that "Demon's Eye" has been replaced with "Strange Kind Of Woman".
I'd rather they'd done the UK release

As far as Friday Music is concerned only buy titles cut by Kevin Grey. The ones 'mastered' by Joe Reagoso alone are generally disappointing. See web site.

Strangely reports on these titles (Steve Hoffman) are quite favourable. I would recommend the Warner reissue of Machine Head which is a KG mastering.

A lot of work was done on the ten year old (or so) CD masterings of these albums and I understand that 'In Rock' was made from the second generation mix tapes, rather than the record company LP compilation master. I could be wrong here, but it sounds bloody good! Early vinyl cuts of 'In Rock' used to make old BSR groove-grinders jump and a recut had to be done to 'fix' this I remember.....

I know for a fact these albums can sound better than old pressing cos my CD remastered issues say so, this is why i buy new vinyl, one of the reasons anyway..

It all depends a lot on who mastered them - no way Joe Reagoso did the actual vinyl cutting as he is not a mastering engineer but label owner. I agree original vinyls aren't always the best but so many new reissues aren't as good as they could be. Also US labels won't have access to original UK source tapes for Deep Purple.

While were at it, anyone got a Rhino vinyl edition of Deep Purple's 'Machine Head', im in two minds as to buy that or the present EMI 40TH Anniversary with the free 7'' !!

The Rhino Machine Head comes highly recommended. It was mastered by Kevin Grey before he moved from Acoustec to Cohearant mastering. Doesn't say the source but not far behind UK original vinyl in SQ (sounds all analogue). Repro of lyric insert included. I would expect the EMI 40th to be from digital files.

There is a review by P.Kelly covering both versions on this Amazon page.
