Hi, having increased my usage of and posting on The Art Of Sound forum recently, I've notice the term Pishanto used by a number of the more frequent users of the forum and wanted to know what you are all referring to?

It's those albums that are in every charity shop and on every car boot sale that everyone except Al avoids like the plague.
Top of The Pops
Manuel & his Music of the Mountains
The soundtrack to The Sound of Music
Anything by K-Tel
James Last
Mrs Mills Piano Party

................that kind of thing.

Aha you mean like the Barry Manilow album I got in a collection of Vinyl I received unexpectedly from the Seller of my LP12 or the 'Chegger's Choice' CD I bought that everyone laughs at?

Ah yes, I can see that you're already an accomplished pishantista yourself!

Also, any old vintage hi-fi tat, which was total tat in its day - and is still TAT (PISHANTO) now, yet Al joyfully hoovers it up and brings it home! :eyebrows:

S'ok, the master will be along soon to give you the full run-down on the practising the art of collecting PISHANTO :D

Ah yes, but you should never become a pishantista leggera!

My sister has a Skoda Superb. And indeed, it is quite adequate!

One of the biggest marketing clangers ever regarding naming a car is attributed to Toyota.

This was back in the day when they decided to name all their models beginning with the letter "C" as in Corolla and Celica.

They had designed a car for the Australian market and they decided to market research one name in particular, so out they went and asked the Australian public this question:

"Is Cecil a nice name for a man?" to which the majority of the answers were "Yes".

So . . . . . . . . . .

They launched a new shiny new model with the name "Cecil".

I think they sold 3 cars in total - or rather they gave them to the management of Toyota

They had to change the name of the MR2 for France too. That was unfortunate.

I believe this fully meets the criteria. If Allen wishes to buy it, I'm open to offers over 5p!

An Australian friend gave me this CD:

I still don't understand what I did to offend her to justify this retaliation. It is beyond gruesome.

Did someone say pishanto :D

Each To Their Own

As I have said before , YES I enjoy going to boot sales and HAVE had some very good bargains , I am more than happy with my haul

LP's , yes some pishanto but more importantly some gems as well , being a 70 / 80 boy that's the type of music I like

Also I would add in buying bulk from boot sales " LP's " I have widened my listening experience , music I have not listened to I now have , AT VERY LITTLE COST 50p each to £1

My recent haul from 2 doors up the road has included 2 Doors LP's at £1 each , If I recall Marco recently spent £170 on a boxed set re release , Mine are originals ;)

I have pishantoed a Audio Innovations valve amp for £20
Several 70's tuner amps Yamaha and Sony for £10 each , Amassed a collection of cassette decks from £5 each , obtained over 100 8 track cartridges

Its NOT allways about the sound quality , I also enjoy the HISTORY of music , back in the day the 8 track was a revolution and everyone had one , then on too audio cassettes the next revolution , so for me the pishanto is also a voyage through audio history

Lastly when out at the boot sale , its also a form of exercise for us " Getting oldies " :) and sets my pulse racing when I see some wooden cheeks poking out from the next pitch

PISHANTO long may it live :)

VIVA PISHANTO!!

I have found the same since I found That's Entertainment (http://www.thatsentertainment.co.uk), CD albums are so cheap I find it hard not to buy in bulk to my wife's dismay :)

Oh Dear.
Carpenters Live?
My missus, for her 50th, wants me to take her to the Austrian Alps so she can sing "the hills are alive" there - live pishanto 1

My neighbour (2 houses down) recently had Chas & Dave as the live band for his garden party (apparantly he's a friend of Dave). Probably better if you were actually there.

Does anybody know where the word 'Pishanto' actually comes from or was evolved? Google is not helpful!

Marco
14-06-2013, 11:05
ME!! I made it up, as a mangled marriage between Scottish vernacular and Italian, with 'anto' simply added onto "Pish" (i.e. 'crap'), in order to make it sound more 'exotic' :eyebrows:

However, I must bow to its master, Al, who turns the term so beautifully into an art form! :youtheman:

Pishanto is a fruity red wine from the Pishani valley region of kazakhstan.

Lidl had some 2009 Gran Reserva Pishanto on offer last week.

Not to be confused with Pisano wine from Uruguay http://www.pisanowines.com/

I would like to try a bottle of Pisano if anyone knows where to buy it ?

If I had been quicker than Marco someone might have believed it :)

Ha - sorry to have spolied your fun, Mark! Yes, I think that could've worked... ;)

Regarding the wine, I suspect that's one for specialist importers and wine merchants, as Uruguayan wines are pretty thin on the ground in the UK.
