A little help required

Having recently got hold of a Technics PSU that uses the following connector

I need to unsolder it from the Van Damme Classic cable and resolder the connector onto a cable that has a 4 pin XLR style mains connector that will be removed. The thing is I am not sure re the colour coding of the cables.

On the Van Damme there is a black cable and a bare wire cable which is terminated at the end with a metal hoop connector that connects to the internal circuit board of the Technics turntable.

Nick (Lurcher) built for me a multiple ins and outs adaptor to facilitate connecting all the PSU's I have to the turntables (not at the same time though) - I really do not want to be soldering and desoldering cables to all four Technics turntables. This comes with Tip plugs in three sizes and the corresponding sockets and two XLR connectors male and female and the corresponding sockets. This particular Technics PSU comes with an input socket I and Nick had not thought of which is a four pin locking type.

on the locking plug the black cable is soldered to pin 3 and the bare wire to 1 and on the 4 pin XLR type red to 4 and black to 1

So the question I want to desolder the connector from the Van Damme cable and put it on Nicks adaptor as a replacement for the 4 pin XLR. So there is a red cable and a black coming out of Nick's adaptor box. Do I solder the black cable off Nicks adaptor to where the black cable was when it was Van Damme and the red cable to where the wire cable was soldered when it was Van Damme. if its any help on the pin connectors the red cable is soldered to the top and the black to the bottom plate where it sits out and bends around the cable.

I know this is an idiot level question but I want to be safe.

Thanks for your help and yes I did pm and email Nick but he is no doubt out enjoying the sun or sitting enjoying a pint somewhere.

Safest way would be to power up each supply and check which is + and which -.

But looking at the pictures, I would expect the red on Nicks supply to equal the black on the new one and the black on Nicks to equal the bare wires on the new.

What I need is some one to say definitively what to connect to what.

Basically Nicks box sits after the PSUs and the turntable plugs into it not the PSU directly. This levels the playing field allowing me to connect each Technics to all the PSUs without having to change connectors on the 1200's and 1210s I have in for the comparative review - which would be a pain in the ass to do and would make doing comparisons a long winded process.

Hi Neil, I don't know if this is of any use but that connector shown looks very much like the one used on the Timestep HE psu, if so pin 3 is +ve (hot) black wire, and pin 1 is -ve (earth) blue wire on the TS/HE I had until recently. This particular psu uses Van Damme classic instrument cable 260-012-060.

Don't envy you one bit taking on this particular comparison , but big respect and look forward to your findings :)

All things being equal, 'NO!'

On Nick's red would be + and black -. On the other, black would be + and the bare shield -. A meter check would tell for sure. Do you have any idea what the voltage is?
