Ok, so I'm going to be accused of shilling this firm again, but it's rare for companies to allow journalists through their doors and show how their stuff is made...

Just thought you all would like to see this. Things have changed a bit since I was last there eleven or so years ago. The arms, cartridges and decks now look to be all made in the newer facility (well, newer means twenty years or so ;)) rather than in the multi-floored premises in Westcliffe-On-Sea. The main circuit boards in the electronics were tradidionally stuffed automatically by a third party, with final assembly being in-house, but there still appears to be a fair amount of manual assembly being done.

The expensive phono stage still terrifies the pants off me (all those wires), but I remember watching the cartridge assembly and testing being done with a fair amount of awe, and this was decades before the Apheta came along.

In spite of the insane rantings of a very few bitter and twisted folk, the fact that Rega still choose to manufacture everything in the UK is to be celebrated in these days of austerity. Let's hope they continue to do so for many years to come, eh?

It is far too easy to dump the UK and move to China.

Dave you are an arse dangling this in front of me, I am as you know, a big fan of Rega products ;)

I have mentioned it a few times on the forum that I'm ex-navy and I actually only ever served on one ship . . . . HMS NAIAD!

I want one . . .

(Naiad by the way, comes from Greek mythology and is a water nymph)
