Here goes, will keep it short and to the point, is it possible to raise the gain of an ( by way of internal mods etc) integrated amplifier without losing dynamics and sound quality?


The reason l ask is l can also use the above integrated as a pre-amp as it goes very loud indeed:scratch:

When used as pre-amp it goes very loud indeed, as an integrated, it sounds not as loud, no where near in fact.

When you are using it as a pre-amp it will be the power amp that determines how loud things will go. Are you asking if you can make the amp in integrated use go louder? In which case the short answer is no.

Increasing the gain of the power amp section may increase noise and distortion... Upping the pre-out output to compensate may be what the amp designers did.

Modern log laws on audio volume controls seem to give two thirds of the gain adjustment in the forst third of rotation, cramping the fine adjustment of lower levels. The old fashioned way was to have 'normal' volume at around half way up...

Yes this what l was asking- then bum, oh well high sensitivity speeks may be on the horizon...... thanks chaps.

Hi Andy, you might be a junior daftee but I think more information will help to answer the question.

You say when using the preamp section that it goes really loud. I take it that is using another power amp; does this amp have a greater rated output?

Are you taking the integrated up to the clipping point, i.e. maximum output, or is it that it just won't get there because of the low gain?

My guess is you will be able to imprve it, what is the integrated amp?
