The LIV Zen Music Server is a small, stylish and silent music server based on the popular VortexBox software. The Zen automatically stores CDs to lossless format (FLAC) with a very accurate CD ripper that ensures your CD is transmitted bit by bit to the internal hard drive. You can access the Zen via your network so you can easily move your music collection and even download digital music directly to it. The Zen integrates an unlimited subscription to Bliss (worth £30) so you can get the most accurate and best quality album art for your music.
The Zen itself is not only a music server but an audiophile-grade music player. Couple it with an USB DAC, preferably supporting the asynchronous USB protocol, and it plays up to 24bit/192Khz FLAC and DSD files bit-perfect. You can then control the music player via a smartphone, tablet or laptop. The control app is available for iOS (iPhone/iPad), Android, Windows 8 Phone and Windows 8 RT. If you don’t have a network music player yet, the Zen + USB DAC can in most cases provide better sound quality than a music streamer at the same price, with the advantage of simplicity being a server and player in one package.
If you own a multi-room music player system such as Sonos or Squeezebox, the Zen is pre-configured to be a server for these systems, allowing you to listen to your music at any time without having your PC on and with much better performance than any NAS currently on the market.
