On the look out for a pair of nice original KEF 104 Reference speakers (Not the AB version)

Any finish will do! Cosmetic condition is not an issue!

The picky bit: They need to be in very good working order and up to spec. The grills must be intact, as we have a rather nosy cat living under the same roof.

PM me if you have what I'm after :)

Why not the ab version? have you ever compared the two on female voice and music with plenty of cymbal work?

I do have very vague memories hearing the two. Can't remember which one I liked best though, but both sounded good.

I'm happy getting the standard 104 for now.

OK Shane. I just wanted to confirm that I also compared the two many times and where the basic sound didn't hugely change, I personally felt the improved crossover slopes did genuinely make voice and close-miked high frequencies especially rather smoother and more natural, that's all.

The 104ab came into its own on digital material and modern, more 'solid' sounding vinyl players will also be great. Swimmy old fruitboxes would cause the ABR loaded bass units to bottom out and flap in general.

Nice speakers these. I was offered a one-owner pair with tired teak cabs and no grilles for £60 a very few years ago. I should have grabbed 'em as they fetch rather more now :(

O the 'AB' sounded best to me.

Wilson and Peacock auctioneers have a liquidation sale on tomorrow (Saturday) at their Bedford branch, they have stock from a sound/audio company that includes KEF 104's, Tannoy DC100's and 200's, Heybrook speakers, B&W,....several....

Still happy to consider 104ab.
