Papworth Burgundy Range.

I can recall back in 2003 my father owning a Papworth TV8 integrated amp which was part of the ''Burgundy'' range. The TV8 was purchased from Walrus Systems in London.

The speakers he used at the time were floor standing Audio Notes. Can't recall the model number anymore?

Was a lovely sounding little amp with sexy looks to offer :stalks: :eyebrows:

Anyone here still remember Papworth? Are they still building and servicing their stuff?

Jimmy Hughes went gaga in Hifi Plus a good few years ago over this amplifier, l have a copy here somewhere..........

Chaps, please don't EVER buy a M&A TVA1. The smaller TVA10 wasn't so fire-prone, but the '1' went through some pretty dire build and sonic stages in its life, although I doubt many survive today in original 'as made' form.....

MENTMORE and PAPWORTH SHORT HISTORY
Anthony Michaelson and Austin produced in 70's some valve amps, including the TVA1 and TVA10. Is generally accepted that M100 may also have been designed at this point too by Tim De Paravicini for Michaelson and Austin, hence TVA (Tim's Valve Amp.)
Unfortunately, Michaelson and Austin went broke. Michaelson went on to found Musical Fidelity and the M&A designs (including the De Paravicini designs) were sold on to Mentmore, a company founded by a London Borough, to provide work experience and training.
Successively the whole equipment was acquired by Papworth Audio Technology, which is a group of companies associated with the Papworth Hospital Trust, based in 32 Fendon Road, Cambridge, CB1 7RT. They produced still their own TVA10 and M-100 but also new amplifiers like TVA50, TVA10i (an integrated version of TVA10), M-200 (EL34 200w mono ampli), M-300 (KT88 300w mono ampli), PPA6 (dual mono valve pre-amp), MVH-200 (a "mosfet" Valve Hybrid' 200w Integrated, also available as a power amp version, MPA-200). Except for TVA50, all of the above are manufactured in heavy gauge mirror polished stainless steel. Lately Papworth introduced the "Burgundy" series, characterized by a nice Burgundy powder coated steel case.

I have Papworth TVA10. Fabulous amp. The M & A TVA10 was prone to fire but the Papworth is a redesigned circuit. Perfectly safe. Very high quality.

Papworth still in business. Mostly (as always) building and exporting to China and Scandinavia.

Couldn't make them fast enough for UK dealers hence low profile here.

I have a Papworth 200watt MosFet/valve hybrid - MH200 - if anyone needs the rafters shaking ( developed for Norway market).

How does the MOSFET amp sound?

The MVH 200 was made for the Norway market who wanted high powered high quality amps to drive big inefficient speakers.

There is a valve in circuit, that can be switched on or off as you prefer. In circuit, for me, it smooths the sound just a touch which I think provides the better output. Other than that, what goes in is what comes out - no colouration.

Extremely well made, very heavy.
