Shamelessly stolen from pfm:

There's a nice snapshot of an SPU and the tonearm I use, too... Can anyone identify the turntable used for cartridge testing? :)

Is it an 'Acoustic Solid' turntable?

It looks to me to have a very low profile - almost like it's built into the bench. The best view you get of it is at 2'23" and you can see a chrome cylinder like a suspension tower or mounting fixture.

There's a whole heap of Ortophon's videos on YouTube here (http://www.youtube.com/user/OrtofonAS2010?feature=watch) including one of the coil winding ladies doing their early morning loosening-up exercises!!

Also watch them make their own rubber compound.

1. Why is the narrator talking like that?

Nice. Very nice. Aesthetically, the near polar opposite of the SPUs.

Is the miss-spelling deliberate, daftee?

Indeed, which is why that, although I 'get' why people like how the A90 looks, it's the opposite of what tickles my aesthetic sensibilities (i.e. it ain't retro). Give me a nice fat, chunky, bad-boy 'needle' any day! :exactly:

I also like it when cartridge leads are enclosed inside headshells, a la SPU, so that one simply sees a 'chunky block' over the record when it's spinning :)

The A90 is an absolutely stunning looking cart and no doubt stunning sounding too IMO - I love Ortofon. I hate the look of SPU's no matter what they sound like. They remind me of a bounty bar on the end of a tube !

'Tis personal taste, is all.... I love my SPU both in terms of its looks and sound! :)

+1

I really don't get on with an excessive amount of "wire dangle"... anywhere in the system. Speaking of integrated headshells, besides the SPUs and my modded Track/Groovemasters, I like the ones Technics put out. They are hard to come by, though. It also looks as if the Technics have adjustable overhang and azimuth, a big bonus in my book. (From Lenco Heaven)

You'll just have to get the gold Techy. "Bling!" :D  Actually, that might look cool.
