Got bored of owning a perfectly functional but slightly soulless Specialized hybrid bike. Saw this gorgeous looking BSA Javelin on-line which turned out to be just up the road from me at the 'Vintage Bike Cave' and couldn't resist in my lust for all things vintage ... :eyebrows:

It's so much quicker than my old bike! Only 5 gears, less to go wrong and easier to maintain.

Here she is in all her glory, fab condition. Love the BSA logo!

Nice classic BSA racer style vintage bike there, looks about a 24" frame, early seventies I reckon. It's the only type I used to buy, but I always took the drop bars off and put straight mountain bike alloy bars and levers on, much more comfortable and gives you better control.

I cycled ten miles a day to and from work until I was 58. So cheap, a drop of oil and a tyre or chain a year and that's about it. I enjoyed it too.

Went back to using a motorbike for the last couple of years until I packed up working.

I'm actually looking around for another bike right now, it has to fold to go in the car though.

Really was a lovely afternoon - rode to Finsbury Park with my boy on his new MTB and the sun was shining ... :)

Was all rather idyllic. I stopped to enjoy watching him riding around and this dude walked up to me, stared menacingly straight through me and said "Is that my bike?" Ah the joys of London Town! I looked at him and said "Nah it's mine". He strolled off saying 'Only joking man!" I laughed slightly nervously ... :mental:

Yeh wasn't all it was cracked up to be, seat tube looked like it had been welded back on and the Fox 40 World Cups were just standard 40's with stickers on. Waste of a morning...

Not yet, but it will be once I replaced those tyres and tubes and the steel spring for a ti one. I need to strip and service the bearings before I use it in anger. I figure I can get it down to 32-33lbs which is where I like to be with a downhill build.
