This event is about the music first.

We've chosen a great location where you can enjoy, discuss and appreciate music as well as having a drink or two.

Excellent - the Lescar is literally a 5 minute stroll from my house :).

Well, I've registered and got my free ticket - is it really entry by ticket only (as entry is free)?

What gear will you be using to play the records - give us a few more details please (not on Facebook though as I don't have an account).

As this event is about the music first, the system is a nice surprise.

I'm at this event this very second. Quite an interesting system the boys have put together too. Very good at lower volumes, not quite so convincing at crescendo.

Not a lot seems to have been said about this but sq and I had a great time (though it did help that we both live very close to the chosen venue) :).

It was a very warm summery evening and although there were a lot of people about I think they were more focussed on sitting outside than listening to records in a room with the doors and windows shut. To be honest, I'm still not quite sure what the goal of the evening was. I appreciate the 'its all about the music' ethos but both sq and I (and some of the other Hi-fi types we recognised there) already own elaborate vinyl systems - if we want to just listen to music we can do that at our houses (and often do :)) - I'm not sure how many people really were exposed to the wonders of vinyl for the first time.

Although very different to the system I use I was impressed with the sound produced. In particular the sound on simple close mikes jazz was deliciously vivid and well projected. We were also really struck by both the quality and the extension if the bass on Dark Side Of The Moon.

On the negative, I didn't think the sound was all that even handed across the frequency range - drive unit integration perhaps. The speakers used Eminence bass drivers and having recently heard a friends speakers with the same drivers I can't help but wonder if the full range mid driver of the demo speakers was really needed at all (perhaps as a bridge to the ribbon tweeter).

I also thought that the sound deteriorated quite markedly at higher volumes - the mid losing dynamic and clarity and disparities between the frequency ranges becoming more apparent. Upper end distortion was significantly greater and a forced, somewhat shouty, quality crept in. Having said that, it was pretty loud :) (don't get me wrong, I like my music loud - volume as such wasn't my issue).

The main goal of this event was getting audio enthusiasts together somewhere they can have a drink, feel relaxed and can listen to the music on a good Hifi system.
I do agree, the weather wasn't helping the event. Although in my opinion it went pretty well.
I'm planning on doing another one. This time in St Mary's Catholic Church Sheffield. Not sure about the date. Maybe October?
