Hi guys, just wondered if anyone can help. I have a Arcam drdock and I want be able to plug in into my tv so I can watch the likes of youtube through the tv. I'm well behind the times with digital stuff  the cable that came with it as a HDMI on one end which fits into the back of the dock and a similar one on the other end with two scRew things on which doesn't fit into my tv. I noticed on the back of the tv there is another HDMI socket so does this mean I need a lead that is HDMI to HDMI.

Cheers

Jason:)

I think this is what you have now:

Yes, you are right, what you need is HDMI from the drdock to HDMI TV should work ok:

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31o5J8p6vZL._SX385_.jpg

The result will be that the DAC in the TV will be making the 'music'.

Im not sure if there is a DAC in the Arcam Drdock - there is no mention of a DAC included on the website - however there is analog audio out on the back, seems kind of confusing.

I recently upgraded my dock. I was using the digital out from a Pure i20, now i have the Cambridge Audio iD100 (both into a Bushmaster).. I think i hear an improvement from the iD100.

PS the HDMI connection should work fine - if you are not satisfied with it you could connect an Apple TV to your TV (also via HDMI) and then wirelessly stream your video from the iPad to the TV - i find it more convenient and quality is good too. And the Apple TV is cheaper than the dock:

That cable cant work as there are no analogue outputs in the HDMI specification for HDMI outputs and the 15 pin D plug is an analogue RGBHV connection. They must get a lot of returns

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI HDMI details ( all digital)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector ( analogue)

As you say a HDMI to HDMI cable should do it and there are plenty of decent ones on my website ;)

Sorry to be pedantic but isn't it more likely that it's this cable that you have Jason (HDMI->DVI)

http://smelectronics.com/images2/S-HDMI-DVI-1.jpg

I didn't even know you could get HDMI --> VGA cables...

Either way you'll need HDMI->HDMI as has been said.

Edit: err... sorry for the HUGE image, a bit in-yer-face :)

That will be it as that would work with computer monitors with DVI in.

LOL that is a huge image nearly fell off the chair lol. I did try it but it didn't fit the one with screw bits on is the same on the back of the tv, its like there both males if that makes sense. For a £200 dock you'd think they'd have added a cheap HDMI to HDMI cable for free. I'll update the thread once I get a lead for future reference for any none digital minded folks like me. :)

Yeah - forum software often has plugins to handle large images and resize them automatically. But that's what I love about AOS - NO LIMITS!

So ok, now you've aroused the geek in me - any chance of posting a photo of the cable you have?

Hi there here's a short video of the leads supplied with the dock :) you get loads with it but none any use to me lol.

That makes sense now, it is an RS232 cable with the D plug, no use for your TV as thats for controlling from a home automation system etc,

HDMI to HDMI is all you need.

Cheers Mark;) I'm totally new to digital so you've been a great help. I might even get rid of the video next for a DVD player lol.

Cheer all

Hi guys just one more question on the cable, is it worth spending a fortune on a hdmi cable or not. I always try to by the best cables possible as I know they make a difference so is it the case with one of these.

Cheers

Jason.

Definately not a Fortune! A good, even very good, cable can be had for not much dough. But there are bad cables out there, i dont trust ebay for cables generally, and it can be hard to know the difference. I have been stung before.

If i were buying new cables, and have time for postage, i would go with Mark. You can be confident he has ensured good value for quality:

Hi Stuart thanks for the link, I bought one the other day from asda just to try it out cost £8
picture can be a bit blockie if that's a word LOL, do you think a better lead would sort this out. Just had a look at Marks cables and the G1080 looks a lot better than mine.

Cheers

Im not sure what would cause the blockie picture. My Cambridge id100 dock does not have an hdmi out - so i cant try to duplicate your results, sorry.

However i can report that the WIFI streaming of the picture from an iPad -> Apple TV -> TV is very high quality, and works fine. So there is no reason the picture coming out of the iPad would be blockie (that i know of).

Sorry, im not much help here.
