Something odd landed on the doorstep this morning. What is it and what can it be for?

The mystery man came over

But it'll cure your asthma too"


Now then. This could be a stroke of genius or it could be an utter disaster. I'm not sure how it's going to turn out. But, just for fun & because I simply don't know what's going to happen next either, I'm going to keep you guessing too.

I'll post one photo a day while we work out what this mysterious 'thing' is.....answers on the back of a postcard please.

No, I don't think aluminium cuts the mustard as a good electrical conductor.

Now that's a very good question!
It's important to think in all three dimensions here. To answer your question in a literal sense, they will be used horizontally but there is a little more to this than currently meets the eye.

Not speaker stands.
However, when I hatched up this plan, I was thinking about a certain speaker (and it's derivative) that used materials with the structural principles I'm aiming for here. There was also at least one other hi-fi product (that wasn't a speaker) which was partly built this way.

Aye, slightly! They come on an artic. 13m, 200mm diameter, with a wall thickness of about 15mm. Who said Aluminium was light??

Will it be made into a support for a piece of equipment? My thinking is that it could either be constructed into a triangular form or perhaps into a 'Y'.

Yes, the idea is to make a support with it (see post 22).
Not a triangle and not a Y, though.

'Roll yer own aerolam' - that was my plan.
I'm going to experiment with some different materials for the top and bottom - obviously one of them will be aluminium sheet like the real stuff, but I've got a feeling other things and mixtures of different layers top and bottom might be interesting too.

I've stretched it out now to something like the final size and there's a good bit more than 1.25 metres in length. Should do for an extra shelf/support - excellent! And all that from a 13mm wide bar - wow!
