Here is my Ortofon ST-80SE SUT. It's 6 months old, boxed in original packaging, and in perfect working order having just been back to Henley Designs to have one RCA socket tightened. Gain is 27dB, but see http://www.ortofon.com/products/transformers/st-80-se-mc-transformer for full specs. It will suit most MC cartridges.

Hugo,

If you don't mind asking, why are you selling?

Hugo,

It just doesn't work for me. Marco and others are overjoyed with theirs, so it must be a system synergy thing.

Price is flexible - any offers out there?

It has worked perfectly for me on 3 cartridges in 2 decks
Perhaps you need to feed it into a Naim 82 ?

Yet it did, when you first got it... I remember how pleased you said you were. Have you changed your system in any way since then?

Of course it is, as is EVERYTHING in audio. I hope you find something better that works for you. I presume some Hashimotos are now Hugo bound? ;)

Anyway, the review quote of the ST-80SE, in HiFi4all.dk (shown on your link to the Ortofon website), for me, says it all:

ST-80 SE provides the optimum signal transmission and integrity...It doesn’t have any sound - it is neutral. It simply lets more information to be transmitted...

That's exactly how I feel: the ST-80SE simply allows the sonic characteristics and musical abilities of my SPU to shine through, unhindered, with no detectable 'signature' of its own. I just wish that the rest of that review wasn't written in Danish....!!

Anyway, mate, good luck with the sale. Anyone with an SPU, in particular (and ideally also a quality valve MM phono stage), who seeks a more 'truthful' sound from it than vintage SUTs provide, should snap up this beauty!! :exactly:

Marco.

Which this was half the price - somehow I don't quite think Hugo's going to let it go for that though. :(

<weighing up trying an SUT into my amp's MM stage but don't want to hijack Hugo's FS thread here>
