Alrighty, long time no see :)

I'm going on a stag do in a week or so and have been asked to sort out something for playing music on.

The last one we took a b&o zeppelin which was awesome for the job ... But I don't have £200 for one this time.
Me being me, I have decided I don't want something crap and new, so have been considering an 80's style ghetto blaster.

I've seen a aiwa tpr905 that looks the part but wonder if it sounds any good .... Or are there any that actually sound good. Needs a line in of course ...

Some of you folk strike me as the sorts that would know about these things ... your thoughts?

Yo Hambo, howz it hangin'? :)

Yeah, a propa full-on blingy 80s-tastic ghetto blaster is what you want, but don't expect the really good ones to be cheap! ebay is your friend. Check out this bad boy:

Although they do look cool, most of the really big things are fairly unpleasant sounding things, although they do go loud!

If you really want sound quality, look for a Panasonic RX-C52L. Yes it may look small compared to most, but it weighs a ton, the sound quality is astonishing and it has a line/phono in.

One for sale here (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RETRO-PANASONIC-RX-C52L-FEATHER-TOUCH-CONTROL-BOOMBOX-GHETTO-BLASTER-RADIO-/390596459713?pt=UK_Collectables_RadioTelevision_Te lephony_SM&hash=item5af15cfcc1) at the moment but I would suggest it's perhaps not quite the best one around!

Condition isn't a real issue, it's for a stag do and if it survives ... I've just built some decking in the garden and if the sun comes out it might be nice to have some choonage-a-rocking up there ... Thanks for that ...

The Panasonic RX-ES29 sounds pretty good.

Cheers, added to the list!

... Actually, looking at it ... Needs to be more 80's :)

Marco

Yeah, you need something really in yer face, blatant 80s... Nuffin' else will do :eyebrows:

Why not also introduce an 80s dress code, for the stag do? Bling it up to the max... That would be a right giggle, and give you an opportunity to wear *that* frock! :D

Marco.

P.S Connie is a veritable cutie-pie... How did that happen with you involved? ;)

Hope you are well Hamish :) Are you ready to give me first refusal on your speakers yet? :D

Haha, those massive 'ghetto blasters' were what got me interested in 'hi fi' as a young kid.I used to look at the catalogue that we used to get delivered and as well as look at the toys i wouldn't be able to have,i would look at all the stereos in there.

It has always intrigued me this hi-fi lark, which is a bit strange as i don't know where it comes from, none of my family were into it,when i was growing up

Haha Darren, well, not mine, but I know of a pair of ex dem deltas (http://www.adam-audio.com/en/home-audio/products/delta/description) going for £4500 including a respray in any colour you like ... unless you like the silver ones?

This (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Panasonic-RX-DT505-top-spec-90s-Portable-CD-AM-FM-Dual-Cass-Stereo-Boombox-/300904291717?pt=UK_CE_Portable_Audio_Portable_Ster eos_ET&hash=item460f4b1d85) is a good bet. I own one of these and it sounds fabulous, goes nice and loud and has phono inputs to the rear. What's not to like? ;)

p.s. It is also humongous :D

Hi Hamish,

I've had one of these for a while, not sophisticated but loud enough, and has a mini jack in at the back...quite robust for a stag do :)...but more 90's than 80's

...EDIT; mine doesn't light up, it's the RV-B55 not 550!!!

Nah, those are all pish! Hamish wants something typical OTT 80s, such as this MOTHA, from the good old days before fooking iPods, and when men were MEN:

For the asking price,i could easily get the full system i want with change to spare

I'll keep waiting then :eyebrows:
