Nothing to do at work so started on my new DIY TT Project. Just wainting one a piece of carbon Fibre sheet. but i can get on with the surround tomorrow :eyebrows:

I'll show thi when i fitted em. The top board you see will be fitted into the surround SME 2000' style, aids leveling & suspension..(Thanks to Vinylspinner: Nigel for the SME Hardware) :thumbsup: I'll make the surround tomorra

Didnt get half done what i wanted today, but a little is better than nothing

Anyhoots. I got the bearing housing hole in but i can't fix it till the carbon fibre sheet arrives :( However the sheet will be sandwiched between the top & bottom boards :)

Hi Andr'e,
Once you've learned from making all the mistakes on your's ;) do you fancy doing another 'proper job' for my Techie? Might be able to rustle up some beer tokens to keep you at it :lol: .
FWIW I always enjoyed working with wood when I was at school and as a teenager but couldn't get a job in the local joiner's and pattern shop (iron foundry) so went next door (Chemmy Lab) so as to be near if and when a vacancy cropped up - 10 years later I woke up and found that I had become a metallurgist :scratch: :mental: :eek: .
But I do appreciate good wood work when I see it - nice one Andr'e !!

Andre', that's the sign of a real craftsman, never being satisfied with his own handywork :lol: . In any case, you're a bloody sight better than I am ;) .

You see when i was in the Trade i took a five year apprenticship (fully paid) in cabinet making. I was also a Joiner & Machinist at the same time.. But not a Carpenter hence every component require to make things was created using precision machinery, not by hand! Don't get me wrong i can use hand tools but i won't becuase uisng hand tools reapts a lesser quality/Precision job, but obviously you have to knock things up by hand :eyebrows: ..

The whole reason i can't start back up making bespoke plinths & such is because i don't have a workshop hence don't have the required precision machinery.

I'm another one struggling with health problems, but I find making plinths/stuff is good for my sanity.

Sure, I'd prefer to be in a fully fitted workshop, what takes me all afternoon with jigsaw and router would take 2 mins on the CNC, it'd be more accurate too, but the chunk of Me is expressed with my work.

I know which I prefer :lol:

I would never be that good but give me the hand made any day. I find it far more satisfying playing one of my guitars rather than some machine made thing that is exactly the same as all the other machine made things. That goes for my record player too.

Sorry but precision of construction & finish are of far more paramount importance than the joy of woodworking by hand..

As for the comments on another posting board about Me: 'dipstick Andre' i am a trained Cabinet maker regardles of what they think & was obviously trained to use hand tools, but as i pointed out im not a carpenter hence i aint gonna plane a block of wood up by hand when i have a machine at the side of me let alone time is money.. to repeat the above machine cut pieces are precision cut, cutting with a hand saw aint..i'll take the machine.

Why oh why do you bother looking at 'that other place' when you know the jist of what all the comments are going to be in the first place??

I went there a few times but just got bored with the repetitive nature of their ramblings. If you keep on looking its a bit like them keeping tabs on AOS 24 hours a day to see what their narrow little world view can scrape up to laugh at.

Plinth ready for hardwood trim adding around top aswell as Acrylic laminating on..

Below bottom view, needs a lot of sanding up yet & a 25mm base board making.. That will be a 76mm laminated slab of MDF altogether, 101mm in total with the baseboard fitted..

Yes Walker Bearing, Sub Platter/Platter.. When this deck is done i'll be replicating it at a later date out of Solid European Oak..

I should be able to get on making the 12V power supply for the DC servo motor driver next week, fingers crossed..

Nice idea Andr'e, but why?

I didn't actually like the F307 that much, despite the fact it was superbly put together. It sounded reasonable, but had reliability troubles. The first one I bought (new) had problems and was sent back numerous times. They never got it right. Either a channel not working or big hum! I gave up and bought a Rotel RA-611, which sounded better anyway and was dead reliable (I'm going back to about 1972 here).

Well my 'Mk.II' has been totally re-built. Not a single ouch of trouble, most parts were overrated.. modern output transistors etc..

Another idea i was gonna employ (& i still could) is exchangable Acrylic top boards. Light Grey if im using the 'F307', orange if i wanna use my Quad '33'/'303', light purple if i wanna use my Armstrong '421', Black for generally use & so on..

I only know the F307mk2 at the very end of its life and it was a nice amp all told.
