Been spinning some Stéphane Pompougnac this afternoon, his stuff is a right mix bag and good but really liking his House bits in the mix.

So, any House Music fans here recommend a couple of essentials for a old codger trying to catch up. :eyebrows:

Thanks in advance.

Andy - are you after historic stuff - i.e. early house from the mid 80's on, or more contemporary stuff - or not fussed, as long as it's good? :eyebrows:

Hi Alex,

Think 80's-90's was it's golden era so i'd like to concentrate on that period but some comtempory would be nice,
not fussed as long as it's good,sophisticated,stylish,fresh,vibey...etc..etc

Don't know if it's the mood i was in, i really hooked onto the House Sound today, it was this box set i was listening to.

There was a German label in the 90's called Eye-Q Records, you may know this label for tracks like the original Energy 52 ''Cafe Del Mar''', Cygnus X ''Orange Theme'', they had a sub label called Harthouse these were top notch labels as were Bonzai & Platipus/Gekko

If you like more Psychedelic Trance the labels to look out for are Flying Rhino Records, Dragonfly Records & Transient Records..

Well a lot of the Hotel Costes stuff isn't what I would immediately think of as "house." Going back to the original Chicago roots, this is a good place to start... (assuming you have Spotify) - "Your Love" by Frankie Knuckles is IMO the de facto House track - how does this compilation grab you?

tracks like the original Energy 52 ''Cafe Del Mar'''

:respect:

I'd forgotten you used to be a big Trance man, Andre! That'll shock a few on here if they didn't know!

Thanks RB, heard of ''cafe del mar'' but haven't actually listened, the record labels are new to me, not got as as Psyche Trance yet, will check out the labels you listed.

Yes, Hotel Costes is not strictly a House album, it has pop, disco, jazz, flamenco, hip hop..etc, it encompasses all genre's.

Thanks to both for the Spotify and Youtube links. :D

Just had a listen through all the links, think i got mixed up with what i heard on my Hotel Costes c.d.,
stuff i liked was more loungey/elevator type, the stuff linked (especially Andre's) is too hardcore, too many BPM, too trancey and too long,
i can see the young yin's getting the vibe after popping a couple of E's and fuelled with Red Bull, :drinking:
i'll just stick to my 3 minutes snippets on my Costes collection. :)

Ah ha! (no, they're Norwegian Pop! ;)) - "loungey/elvevator type" I can do in abundance - I'll have a check through some of my playlists and come up with some suggestions. :)

Andre, thats what it is, sometimes it's hard to categorise Dance,House,Tecno,Ambient,Rave,Hip Hop...etc..etc., especially for the uninitiated like me.

from the time where you did not need pills, but just danced and got high on the music... endorphines, natures own drug ;) Breaks and at least 120 bpm - example: the snowman remix of Stakker Humanoid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaqj9jVUWs0

Label it house, acid, Deep house, techno.... it had a beat.

But it is really the lounge/chill out stuff that you are after?! Must admit that I did not spend much time in those areas.

But I did pick up on Things like:
Art of Noise - Moments in love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIcmIhOesaI
The Orb - Little Fluffy Clouds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHixChYgGRI

And the odd cross-over like Inner City from the Chicago House scene; music that also got played on "normal" discoteque http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJxJxr9RlKM

Some modern tracks with a bit of soundscape/ambience

Trentemøller - there are other things from Denmark than Carlsberg, Bacon, butter and Tina Dico
Miss you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DUCKGyojpE
Moan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G5UGybYN-E

wth a live version of Evil Dub + Moan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RqvPkByI1A

From Norway Theres is Royksopp - What else is there?v http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLpkXtM-VI8

and if that voice gave you something? here it is Again... from Sweden Fever Ray - Keep The Streets Empty For Me
