REALLY pissed off with this news! (I'm not a BT customer...) So I either have to switch to them, or forego watching it. :( That really is pants. :steam: I just hope DORNA (the "owners" of MotoGP and World Superbikes) don't do the same with World Superbikes...

(And if all you can do is stream it from BT, then it probably won't be in HD, and I wouldn't be able to watch it on the telly without a faff. Grrr!)

Eurosport have had it for years and I watch all the qualifying and free practice on it in HD.
BBC pissed me off last race by NOT showing it live in HD and they have the rights to the live main motogp. Odd that you can watch everything except the main event in HD when BBC feel that something else is more important than the GP.

Now its gone to a 3rd rate pile of shit channel that about 6 people in the universe have.

What a total cock up......im not happy....really not chuffin happy :(

I hope Eurosport can still show the qualifying and free practice and the main race delayed. I'll NOT be paying for any more bloody channels than I already do.......ever!

I actually think this is a ploy by DORNA to get people to subscribe to their own live video service, especially as they've just launched the new "multiscreen" version (at 60% higher...)

Yes, it does look that way - thanks. Phew (for me) but still a major PITA for a lot of people - and I guess it will probably mean more cost anyway...? I also really like the Eurosport coverage, so am anxious how the new channel will do it.

To be honest I hardly watch any TV. Thus I only have freeview. If I want to watch any major sporting event I either watch it on the internet or head down the pub.

The TV networks ain't getting anymore of my hard earned money.

The only downside is that you have to be patient in searching for a suitable stream and the quality is not always the best. But for free it's good enough for me.

I decided to send DORNA an email on Wednesday after reading more about the furore in MCN...

With some sadness I note that the UK MotoGP coverage rights have been sold to BT, and they will have exclusive rights next year. I have been a keen bike racing fan for more than 3 decades, following all the series and was delighted when you awarded the BBC the rights, at the time stating one of the reasons was to allow coverage to everyone due to it being on terrestrial TV and not limited to people having to subscribe to a particular TV provider. Such a shame that you have now decided to deny many hundreds of thousands of true fans from enjoying free access to the series. Just as MotoGP goes "mainstream" in the UK you shoot yourselves in the foot by limiting free coverage to a minority of BT Broadband customers, or forcing us to pay £180 per year to subscribe to an alternative service.


Unfortunately, as I already subscribe to Sky Sports to enjoy WSBK and the BSB series (as well as MotoGP currently) I do not feel I can warrant any further expenditure to watch your MotoGP series. If the reactions around the internet forums, Motorcycle press and discussions with fellow fans are anything to go by, then I will most definitely not be in the minority, and most current fans of MotoGP will have no option but to miss out in the future. I'm sure you are not in the slightest bit worried about this - there can only be one reason why you have awarded BT the exclusive rights and that is for your profits - hopefully for you the short-term gain will not be offset by the long-term decline of interest in MotoGP, but I rather suspect it will. I'm sure your marketing and finance people will have calculated that a large number of the fans now denied free access will flock to your own online subscription coverage - however I doubt than many will fall for that cynical ploy!


I have read Carmelo Ezpeleta's comments in Motorcycle News that this is about not chasing the biggest audiences, but instead giving better coverage - but at what expense? According to the MCN article less than 10% of the Qatar BBC viewers would have been able to watch had it been on BT Sport - do you really think a large proportion of the 1.5m people who would have missed it will be making a substantial investment now to continue watching?


Of course this email won't make the slightest difference except to make me feel better, but I felt compelled to get in touch to say "good bye" and thanks to the BBC and Eurosport especially for the fantastic coverage over the years. I rather think you have scored a rather spectacular own-goal with this deal that will kill-off interest in MotoGP in the UK - I just hope you don't decide to do something equally disastrous with WSBK...
