Hi, as some of you know, a couple of time a year I'll sort out some serious mods on a CD player and offer it up for sale. I'm off to the IOM TT at the end of the month so I'm offering this CD17 with a considerable amount of modification to assist with finds for my trip.

The player is the champagne gold version and is not the KI.....I say this not because I'm trying to play down the player but so I can tell you the differences between the KI and non KI version.......a toroidal transformer, a KI badge, some copper plate and a cover over the over the DAC chip and output stage. Thats it!:eyebrows:

The player is at a level which is well above the KI and that is an understatement. The level of modification is well in excess of an £800 commercial mod package. It uses the exceptionally good TDA1547 or DAC7 as its know. Its the crossover chip from philips which combined some old school technology found in the infamous TDA1541 with more more modern DAC technology. As such it retains the very analogue signature of the early chips with the detail readily available in the later chips.

First up, the cosmetic condition is about 9.5/10. I say this because there is a scratch on the right hand side of the player that has been touched up with some paint. The colour match is virtually perfect but you can notice it. There are a couple of little marks on the top of the player but otherwise its almost perfect.

So now the mods....
Not really a mod, but the transport has been replaced (laser and spin motor ass)
The tray loading mech has been cleaned and re lubricated
The CD clamp has been filled with hot glue for a small amount of added mass

Audio PSU and output stage
Replace analogue PSU reservoirs (Elna Audio 3300uF) with Mundorf SI 15,000uF (2) As significant upgrade in component stamina and quality
Replace post reg caps with Rubycon ZLH 470uF low impedance (2)
Replace HDAM caps with Rubycon ZLH 470uF (4)
replace opamps with Nat Semi LM4562MA
DC blocking caps bypassed

DAC analogue Audio PSU
Local caps replaced with Rubycon ZA 220uF

Digital PSU
Replace PSU reservoirs 3300uF with Panasonic FC 5600uF (2)
DAC Digital Caps Oscon Solid Polymer 560uF (2)
Bitstream chip Digital Oscon Solid Polymer 560uF(1)
Decoder Servo Digital Caps Oscon Solid Polymer 560uF (2)
Transport & Laser driver IC's Oscon Solid Polymer 560uF (2)
5v Low Noise regulator for the main digital supply
5v Low Noise regulator for the Transport & Laser supply

Clock
The master clock has been replaced with one of my own clocks based on my low noise regulator with a quality oscillator decoupled with Oscon SEPC 560uF and a 0.1uF C0G right on top of the osc supply pin in order to achieve lowest possible noise on the osc supply. The supply to the clock is taken from the Digital PSu via a high current inductor in order to better isolate stray noise on the supplies.
Chassis
IEC mains socket fitted
CMC style Phono Sockets fitted

Some of the high quality components fitted as standard have not been changed for good reason. The 6 elna Cerefine that decouple sections of the DAC and the analogue output stage have not been changed as these components are already premium quality.

The unit comes with a remote (no original but is a Marantz) and the original instruction book.

Ive been listening to this player today and it really is quite something. One of the things with the 17 is that it was never an entry level player. The build quality is exceptional and the chassis in no lightweight!!!

I'm after £475 plus postage which is an absolute bargain for the level the player is at. I always guarantee my work for 3 months and there is no exception here.

If you want more info drop me a PM. The white balance is not great in the pics and it seems to look more silver than the champagne gold colour it is.
