View Full Version : Output impedance of a typical CD player
Can someone (perhaps Stanley ?) tell me the typical output impedance of a CD player? In particular, my CD player which is a Sony CDP - XB 930. The operating manual does not state what the player's output impedance is.
I assume it's < 1000 Ohm, possibly ~ 100 Ohm.
Thanks

I would have thought you had the kit to measure it Barry
Do you have a scope and a test disk?

I've just measured the O/P impedance of a Philips CD610, it measures 990 ohms.
The service manual quotes 1K ohm. Looking at the circuit there is a 1K series resistor after the output of the LM833 opamp, then a transistor to mute the output.
If the output is directly from whatever opamp it's going to be very low impedance. I would guess there is usually a series resistor.

Thanks Alan - your measurements confirm what I suspected; I no longer have the means to measure it myself.
I needed this information to be able design a suitable attenuator for my CD player. At the moment it's a bit too high; causing the volume control range on my Levinson ML-26 preamp to be a bit cramped.
