I've always loved the look of those Quad monoblock amps.

They are great speakers, not surprised you are enjoying them.

Al - make sure you try them with the covers off if you haven't already.

'cos I now have 12 pairs of speakers and only 4 systems in use! Plus, as they're so big, they will really only work in my main system, and I marginally prefer the SP1's - but it is close! (I think the RAMs are better in the bass, the Spendors have the midrange advantage, which fits better with my musical tastes.) That said, I will be having a swap round I think, as I've not played them in a while. :)

They are reasonably rare, as RAM didn't make that many pairs of the BBC licensed LS3/5a - but more for collector value than sound quality - the price of all variants is mad, IMO, and I suspect driven by Far Eastern collectors with more money than sense! I bet these sound just as good (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RAM-100-speakers-/271197044603?pt=UK_AudioVideoElectronics_HomeAudio HiFi_HiFiSpeakers&hash=item3f249a7f7b&nma=true&si=MgbLRiZ8XqETF1Drd2eRFhbWlGA%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557) if not better - for £26!

LS3?5a do have a certain quality to them I can see makes them appealing, especially if you only have a small room - like many in Japan for instance. I'm sure it could be copied in a modern design for a lot less, always wondered why no-one does it. For me the larger RAMs are where it's at, though. You gotta have a bit of power and scale :)

In my modest system I would say better :)

LS3/5a are one of those rare speakers, ime, that mate really well with a small subwoofer.
The synergy is quite amazing - power and scale in abundance, quite beyond expectations, while retaining what the little speaker excels at.

RAM 150s installed in main listening room... Wonder if the missus will notice - took her about a month last time I swapped something around!

Difficult to tell how they compare to the SP1s as I'm playing new music, but I'll have a bit more of a play later with familiar stuff. They still sound mighty fine, the extra oomph of the ABR is apparent in the bass.

Now, if only they had some badges! :rfl:

They've been in before, but never made a long appearance! The interest William has been showing in the speakers is a major factor - the covers on the RAMs seem a bit more protective than the Spendors, and (rightly or wrongly) the RAMs are worth about 10% of the SP1s - so if a driver does get poked it would be less of a disaster...

Glad to hear the RAMs are sounding good - I've passed up pairs of these on more than one occasion but wondered if I was missing something - it appears I was.

So, come on then, who's ever seen a pair of the fabled STL4s?

From what I've seen on those spec badges the ram 150 and 200 monitors are both rated 75w. Does anyone know what is the difference between the two?
I'm interested as I'm looking for a pair of Bextrene drivers for my B&W DM2'S. I know Ram 150's 8 inch Dalesford Fenoba II drivers would be a match I was wondering whether it's the same for the 200's.

the 200 has a bigger magnet on the bass driver even though both are 8 inch units. https://vjenning1.wixsite.com/ramloudspeakers/classes

ram stuff was supposedly well thought of in the day, although i dont know if that was justified. Falcon i think made all the boards for them.

I think they are pretty good in the context of speakers of that era. I'd rather have a RAM200 then the DM2 although I like the DM2.

They got a licence to produce the LS3/5a from the BBC which involved very tight specifications so they must have been good when needed.

RAM never took off in the UK, hence their early demise.

@florin My DM2a have Kef B200 instead of the usual B&W driver. They sound good to me.

Had both these and RAM 200- would probably keep the B&W out of the two. Horses for courses.

Not really. I did some reviews in Hi-Fi for Pleasure and a couple of other mags of the time but RAM were never big and as I recall, not around for more than a couple of years.

Maybe check the Dm2 with the ram 200 mid bass driver inside at some point for us since you have both ..
Many thanks!
