My modest set up, with some unusual if rather large speakers..

The little black box to the right is that speakers mono block amp. The pre is next to the turntable (with the separate power supply at the bottom of the rack).

Should really get a better looking turntable stand than that 25 year old Sound Organisation one!

The CD player is a Sony CDP XB930. I could get a better one but I hardly ever use it.

Rather interesting speakers, :cool: did you consider a ribbon tweeter to do the job of 2 dome tweeters?, not criticising, just a thought. :)

edit: just read your introduction post, it seems these are not homebuilt DIY speakers, sorry.

Hello mate, they are home made speakers, just not by me!

I bought them from the guy that did make them in his house (these would be way beyond my capability!) He was halfway through another even more ambitious build, which was one of the reasons for selling these.

I'm not sure why he placed two scanspeak tweeters in, but can tell you the lower box is basically a speaker in it's own right so is an infinite baffle design bolted on the front of a transmission line for the bass (the exit port is at the rear at the top)

I can tell you that he designed them to be placed closely to televisions so they could be used as part of a surround sound system (negating the need for any sub), perhaps that has some influence?

But seriously, they look very distinctive seem to almost have a personality of their own. Are they very heavy?

Ha! never thought of that myself, but I do think they are very 'of their time' in design. I've a couple of mates who have SD1's and they consider these as monoliths in comparison! They are very heavy, a 2 man lift, but possible to 'walk' small distances on your own. They do need a lot of space to work properly, so I'm thinking of getting something slightly smaller and less imposing.
