I've now moved on to Tannoy System 800's (Bigger brother to the 600)

I'm now asking 120 Pounds (firm) for the Tannoy System 600. Now that is a bargain for such a good quality loudspeaker!!

Yes I know carrier company's collect BUT only when it convenient to THEM


I have on several occasions sat in ALL day and they don't turn up , when you phone to complain you then get told " Our driver could get no answer " and left a card :steam:

I look in my porch and see " NO CARD :scratch: "

It can be a nightmare :eek:

Then you have the " I have not received it " and " Its damaged " side of things

So collection does have it positives ;)

If a seller is looking to achieve a target price then offering to ship the item enhances their chances of achieving that target. I have received my fair share of items which have arrived damaged and without fail it has been due to poor packaging by the seller. I have shipped a lot of valuable hifi equipment, including turntables, over the last three and a half years and I have not had any complaints on that score. Packaging hifi equipment for shipping is a bit of an art and not everyone is good at it.

If Shane were willing to ship the Tannoy's he would have £100+P&P in his PP account today and I am sure he knows that. It is his choice whether to ship the gear or not however and after all, it can be a bit of a faff... :cool:

I have on several occasions used Interparcel/UPS and it has never been a nightmare once. I've stipulated a narrower collection window (eg. between 2.00pm - 5.00pm), the package is trackable right the way through, and I have never once (touch wood) had anything received damaged.

What you have to remember is that its a specialist item(s) that is being sold and to restrict to local pick up is going to significantly reduce the number of potential buyers and therefore effect the likelihood of sale.

Fuel is incredibly expensive! Even travelling 30-40 miles each way collect something is going to add more than the cost of shipping and will take valuable time.

Correct packaging is the key and photographs while packaging the item are extremely useful in the event of a problem.
I always ship with the correct amount of insurance. I've had 1 occasion where an item was damaged and I was paid out in full and to reinforce the above post, that was with Interparcel via UPS. I use them all the time and have only ever had this one problem.

Please don't take this as a dig Shane, just hoping to point out that there are options that would allow you to sell quickly and cater for a wider audience.

Guess it did UV, :D was gonna post something like your last post but was afraid Shane might take it the wrong way. :)

I did exactly as you advised when i sold my Wharfedale W3,i actually hunked the 2 packages to UPS depot and did a personal drop,
did the same when i sold my Ditton 44's to Nathan in Eire and gonna do the same when i sell my Tannoy MG's, :D
but i understand Shane can't do that being carless but it was to highlight evidence of each stage of it's packing incase of any trouble further downstream.

Of course it is your sale and of course you are perfectly entitled to conduct it on your own terms. My comment was not some sort of threat, as you seem to have perceived - it was friendly advice. It's a simple fact that generally things will sell better if you offer to post them. If you insist on collection, then you do yourself a disservice.
