WTD: Power amp with plenty of clout

Have been looking for a Krell KSA 50 or 100 with no luck. Have any AOSer's get some kit they want to sell?

I remember a Krell KSA80 (really good and not as "cloudy" as the 50 and 100 could be) hanging around on fleabay for £1200 or so for ages, so don't abandon all hope.

if you don't have 1 ohm full range ribbons, then why not buy a Quad 606mk2 cheap until the amp of your dreams comes along. A really nice sound, great long lasting build, real ability into 4 ohm loads (unlike stock previous Quads) and an easy resell later on, you may just fall in love with it for the money they go for ;)

I sold a complete quad 77 setup last year :( but silly really but it did enable to finish my valve setup :eyebrows:. I may even consider the new quad monoblocks.

Never heard a chord amp, Martin;) I may just buy some big old integrated thing from the 70s as a Get-by until something really floats my boat.

whats your budget andy 500wpc @ 8ohms , 1600wpc @ 2ohms & 7,000wpc peak
100amps & 100volts can drive a 1/3rd of a Ohm load enough clout for you

I can recommend the Magtech wholeheartedly as having plenty of grunt at half the price of the Chord.

Lyngdorf SDA 2175 or an earlier TacT is a great power amp.

Easily pushing over 200 wrms into 8 ohms per channel, and can be had for around £700 ish when they come up for sale.

I actually do regret selling my Classe CP 47.5/SDA combo, it sounded much better than the integrated SDAi 2175.

I have a pair of Magtechs driving an older pair of Innersound ESls in active bi-amp mode so another thumbs up for the Magtech - and I think there was an Innersound ESL300 (Magtech predecessor) for sale on one of these forums recently for not too much money

Big old integrated thingies from the 70's may by now be a risk, as even Japanese components such as electrolytic caps wear out eventually and many really didn't sound very good, due to THD reduction coming before everything else, such as high current capability....

As a compromise, the HK5500/6500 style of integrateds from the 1980's had good sound and plenty of current to drive modern speaker loads. Just a thought... Later, the bigger Rotels were very good too, the 971 (and 972 I think it was) having good sound and a great matching power amp for bi amping. Not humungous power, but not bad.

Finally, pro amps? The classic MC2 range with linear supplies are rated very highly indeed and offer good service backup should it be needed. Yamaha made a summatorother 3000 pro stereo amp that is very well liked and the HH VX amp range just runs and runs, being very speaker safe if left on 24/7 as many were in editing suites etc....

Guys! Thanks for developing the thread. I'm looking at spending about a grand, I'd love SS as I have plans to do some modding to my Radford pre and power amp which drive my Tannoys! I'm not too bothered about an integrated altough if a Sansui 919 came along i'd snaffle it up. So really we are left with some cheapo monoblocks or a poweramp. More suggestions are welcome.

I have a Chord SPM2000 which will give 200w in two channel mode, with the option to move to bi or tri amping each speaker at 160W more I guess in in 4 channel mode.

Alternatively if that doesn't float your boat how about a Bel Canto Evo 200.2. Class D with 120W on tap into 8 Ohm.

Thanks, that's a $9000 integrated which looks bloody lovely. So if your happy to sell for around £1000 I'd be severly interested. I'd need a demo of course.
