Systems you owned and Enjoyed

Thought this would be an interesting thread if it's not been done before - basically systems you've owned in the past and enjoyed. Don't have to be the most expensive you've had!
This pic show a Linn Majik amp, Squeezebox and DVD player through DAC Magic and the 1210 turntable. Speakers are Clestion A1s.
The A1s are very underrated loudspeakers in my opinion and can be had for not a lot - not everyone likes the tweeter but I did:eyebrows: The MAjik amp (Mk 1 I think this was) is also a great little performer.

This little ML setup was pretty good, Stu. Ascent/Descent which were driven by an Air Tight ATM2 then some 211 monos (in the pic).

Fine til it got pulverised by a pair of Apogee Duettas. And I mean fairly seriously beat!

Keesonic Kolts driven by the Audion Sterling Plus and Icon LA3
Really really nice, lovely midrange and treble, just about everything except deep bass, adding a BK Gemini II solved that. Was sorted until the Maggies above turned up.

Sounded nice, great soundstage and bass quality, sounded even better with the Audiolab 8200MBs on loan.

This was a totally bonkers lot that I put together a few years ago. Looks shiit, but sounded fantastic IMO of course! PS there are two more subs hiding away in that lot as well! The main amps are the carnage on the top of the speakers behind the "super" tweeters (LM3875 gainclones waiting for their clothes)

It has taken me some time to figure out what all the gubbins I had going is! There is a DIY 96kHz Up-sampler on one of the shelves. There is a DIY "Shigaclone" transport sitting on the top of the A1 amp, and it looks like a "nude" diy DAC of some kind. The rest could take all night.

Some stunning systems here guys :) here's my set up from about 3yrs ago just before I moved house. The system sounded stunning both with the quads and the neats sometimes I couldn't believe what I was hearing it really was that good. Sadly I've sold alot of it on but not all off it. Gutted now looking at the pics but onwards and upwards my system is coming along nice again now :)

Its worth it, had 57s and the Maggies in my room, cant quite give them all they room they need otherwise it would be where I am at now!

Good point... Changing our leather sofa for a fabric one was a bad idea. Still I guess the Logan's wouldn't have this problem and I do like the look of them (a lot:eyebrows:)

Here are some shots of the system I had in a shed/studio in the garden of my old house. This dates from 2009, note the bling Thorens, looked great, the one I demoed sounded great, the one I bought never really did it for me...

The rest of the kit is your basic entry level naim olive kit, CD3.5 and Flatcap, a NAT03 which is a decent tuner and a pair of NAP90s bi-amping the Neats. I was experimenting with PC audio via a Beresford TC 7520 which on the floor under the hideous soundstyle rack.

While we did some work on the house the shed system grew at an alarming rate:

Here we have the guts of my active system from the house, a pair of NAP 250s biamping the Neats. There are 3 HiCaps in the system, 1 for the 102 and one each for the stageline on the Thorens and the prefix on the LP12. This was the best sounding passive system I put together. I was comparing pushing audio via a benchmark with streaming via the UnitiQute (used a a source only). I preferred streaming and sold off my CDP and the bechmark soon after.

I moved the system out of the shed and into more subtantial digs. The Thorens and the Soundstyle rack were disposed of and my SL2s restored to the system. The Neats are currently in storage

Digital in this setup is Naim DAC and ND5XS. The silver boxes are a Radikal and Uphorik. (Dunno why we bought silver cases, they bugged the hell out of me while they were here. Bling choice not working again!).

System in 1998: IPL S5TL home-built speakers driven by bi-amped Croft 4S and Leak Stereo 20 power amps.

System in 2002: JM Lab Mezzo Utopia speakers driven by Chord SPM-1200E (yes, I still use it) with REL Studio II subwoofer. Preamp was a Pass Labs X1 and sources included Sony SCD-1 SACD player and Strathclyde STD-305M turntable.

We have 57s and three cats.

The speakers are much more proof against cats than most. All the important bits are behind metal grills. I have had to remove the cloth covers that OneThing fitted when they rebuilt them as they have been shredded. Occasionaly, I have to refurbish the wooden end caps but thats a minor thing. The working bits are fine.

I've enjoyed many configurations over the years, of differing persuasions (ie heavy SS amps, small valve ones etc) but one that does stick in my mind is this one...
