Dear All,

I have for sale a Rogue Audio Metis Preamplifier, and a Rogue Audio Stereo 90 power amplifier, both finished in black.

I am looking to sell them both for £1200, but will consider splitting for sale. I live in Kingston upon Thames, and would be happy to demo to those local to me. Personal collection would be preferred, but I will ship via insured courier for an extra charge. As with all valve equipment, it is *heavy*

They are both in excellent condition, with the power amplifier having just returned from a maintenance service by Surrey Amp Hospital.

They work very well as a combination, and as a whole have a detailed, propulsive and gutsy sound that has plenty of power to drive 'real-world' speakers to high levels without strain. They image extremely well and a tuneful and powerful bass (very important to me!)

They also give a wonderfully deep and wide stereo acoustic, and the selectable Ultralinear/Triode modes allow optimisation for different genres of music. I prefer Ultralinear for most of my listening, but triode is great for vocal, guitar and acoustic music.

Rogue Audio provides excellent manufacturer support to customers, and they couldn't be more helpful with advice and tips.

I will be sad to see them go, but my loss is your gain ;)

Rogue Audio Metis Preamplifier

As you can see below, this example is in excellent condition, and I have owned it from new (purchased August 2008). It incorporates the optional £100 remote volume control, and will be supplied complete with user manual and original packaging, and I'll throw in a set of Herbie's way Utrasonic Tube Dampers, as shown. I'm very happy to answer any questions about this item.

It has socketed op-amps in the Phono stage, so it is quite amenable to tweaking for those so inclined.

Key Features:

Solid aluminium remote volume control
6SN7 line stage tubes ((Fitted with low hours Electro-Harmonix 6SN7EH Gold valves)
Rogue Audio upgraded HT supply capacitors (see image below)
12 dB gain line stage
Slow start feature extends tube life
Solid state phono w/ 35dB gain (before preamp)
Headphone amplifier
(3) line level inputs, (1) phono input
(1) variable output, (1) fixed output
18” W X 12.5” D X 4.5” H
16 lbs (22 lbs shipping weight)

Rogue Audio Stereo 90

My Stereo 90 was purchased from the UK importer, and has just returned from a checkup and service by Surrey Amp Hospital.

This is an excellent power amplifier, related to (but superior to) the Atlas power amp and Cronus integrated amps. It delivers a true 90w output in ultralinear mode, and 60w in triode mode (selectable via a switch on the rear panel).

It also has the most logical and easy to use bias adjustment mechanism I have ever seen on a power amp. there is a nice analogue ammeter and individual bias trim pots to allow valves to be replaced and biased individually.

The amplifier has separate 4 and 8ohm taps on the output transformers to optimise the amp for common speaker impedances.

I work with in Kingston. Small world.

BTW, on some of your tubes, you've got metal rings with white bits on them, what are they for?

Hi Martin,

They are Herbie's Way 'ultrasonic' tube dampers - used to reduce microphonics on small signal valves by damping vibration picked up by the glass envelope. They are made from a spring steel tension ring, and a nylon or similar wheel that slips over the tube envelope.

There are lots of alternative designs, but I like these the best as they won't affect cooling by radiation through the glass envelope, and won't go hard or brittle over time like the silicone o-ring type.

Very effective, I must say - made a noticeable difference with the 6SN7s on the preamp. Cost about $16 each + shipping, but I will throw them in with the amps.

Cheers,
Alex

Alex,

not sure my PM reached you.
What would be your best price (answer by PM please) with a local pick up ? Is the pre still there or did you complete the sale on the Bay?
