Hi Nathan, CD52 is a SAA7350GP, not a TDA1541, please correct me if I'm wrong :| Cheers.

Sorry Philipe, you are spot on, I didn't pay attention to that column.

If it were me I'd be looking for either Arcam Black Box or Musical-Fidelity Digilog DAC's.

Both are TDA1541A & much more flexible than standalone players.

Yeah but he's got some hundred cd's and he's used to the whole getting up from couch ritual...

Ah okay! Sorry, I just sold an Arcam Delta 70.2 but such machines are getting quite long in the tooth & mine really needed a full recap/service.

I'd be on the lookout for a Marantz CD50.

You should be able to pick one up for under £50 and they are quite tweakable :) I've modded 3 or 4 of these and they respond very well.

I've got a CD50, it's the SE version but I don't know whether that makes a difference or not

On your link website is says:

MARANTZ CD-50
Philips TDA1541A - SAA7220P/B
Philips CDM-4/19 Composite

Don't know if that helps at all :)

SE has a heavier base plate and a few different caps.

CDM4 mech is very reliable.

Moreover, the Arcams, Marantz CD50 etc. are easily outclassed by something like a Beresford DAC. The TDA1541A is not used to anything near its full potential in these machines.
