I'm looking for a Nakamichi, Teac, Pioneer, Sony, Technics, Akai or similar vintage high quality cassette deck. It must be fully working and in very good cosmetic condition. I'm based in Edinburgh and don't have a car so can't collect. Budget is up to £250 for the right bit of kit.

Thanks Andre, the price is too much for what it is I think, especially given the condition. Don't really trust these "house clarance" sellers if I'm honest.

I just lost out on this, maybe I should have gone a bit higher:

I'm watching a few other items, but nothing that is completely what I want.

Yes you might be right, one to put on your list tho, it was a good deck.
Ah the '202' & '505' were ballerina decks. I doubt i would touch another Nak, ive had too many break down on me.. I'll stick with the little '500' i have now it's been recapped & serviced it shouldnt give me any trouble even tho i don't use it

'GX-65' is a nice enough 3 Head machine. Not much chance of those heads wearing out any time soon.

Could do worse than this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-Sale-Sony-TC-K677ES-Cassette-Deck-in-excellent-condition-/161016482941?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Cassette_Tape_Play ers&hash=item257d548c7d

I haven't used one personally, being an ES machine it might not be a world beater but I guarantee it wont be crap.

Thanks James, I saw that it was on sale on the Wam until it went to eBay.

I've got a potential deal on a Nakamichi through AOS, and have just won this (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sansui-Stereo-Cassette-Deck-D-95M-/221216486121?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=4%252F3Gm40aVQMW6LvOIL0KU1mLbuY%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc) for the grand total of £0.99, which will be collected by my relative and brought up to Edinburgh in the summer. Will be a good opportunity to compare the sound quality. You can never really have enough bits of 1980s kit lying around IMO.
