With some serious Be comp drivers and horns no longer in use
from a previous Array project I've decided to upgrade my AV mains using JBL 2206H Bass mids and the SAM1 horns.
70L ported, good down to 55hz I'll be using a BK XXLS400 sub(maybe 2)

The porting will follow JBL's latest thinking featuring large radius flanges on each end, the bass will be EBS aligned as this gives the best subjective bass to my ears.
I wish I had a pound for the times I've made this recommendation(to Tannoyista's mainly).
Enclosures are shaped to eliminate/minimise standing waves and will be lined with 1 to 2" fibreglass a la JBL. Crossovers will be active DSP @1200hz(slopes to be decided)
Amps as befits an AV system will be 6 channel Rotels.

Substantial magnets/construction is pretty much parr for JBL Pro. These bass mids are the equal in distortion terms of JBL's latest 1200FE.s.

Flatpack well packed.

Panels were so accurately cut a dry assembly was easy and lacking any surprises, some very interesting intersections between panels too.
Credit to Neil at WA for accommodating my design modifications.

Box glued up, baffle and chamfers placed for fit only.

Hard to resist so dropped drivers in place to get an idea for the way they're going to look.

I'm going for a satin black finish eventually and will post progress as as when.

Cheers

Nice!

I love the serious JBL stuff (and Tannoys). Especially the beautiful drivers they used to turn out in the seventies, along with companies like Altec and Coral. Pioneer still produce some top class professional bass drivers and compression horns if I'm not mistaken.

Should be an interesting project.

They pretty much brace themselves and sound/feel dead but I'm adding a support brace for the Horn and may well put a T brace near the bass driver.

Wow frank, they look great.

I'm really amazed by WA for making a cabinet like that with all those cuts, was it "really" easy to stick them together? Did all the joints match up gap less.

Are we talking crazy money for a design like that.

Cheers

Taking these as the base, baffle shape/layout and porting was modified. A rear hatch to access the compression driver and mount the horn was added.

They go together really well and yes, some of the panels are very sharp with some funky machined angled joints, these were altered from originals but matched up perfectly.

The 4" voice coil 12" 2206h bass mid is a pretty exceptional beast with THD of around 0.35% over most of it's range measured at 111dB!!(most manufacturers only publish their 90 dB measurements...)

The following shots show added corner braces top front and back, sand/paint(6 coats) and internal damping fitted.
