Another year and plenty more new members have joined the AOS hopefully many who own nice vinyl spinners. Also many existing members will have changed their turntables or added new arms, cartridges etc so here is a chance to show us all what your latest creations are. The image can be a part of your turntable or the whole thing, be creative!

The rules are simple, put a photo of your turntable in this thread (if you are not sure how to do it just join a free hosting site like photobucket), upload your image and copy the code, click on insert image when posting in the thread and copy the code in there.

The 5 best pictures all get 50 mofi record sleeves each.

I have taken a quick pic of one of my record players to start things off, and please will mods and trade members post as well as I really do like to see as many decks as possible.

Of course as the AOS is renowned worldwide for being a Techy officionados forum what better image to start it with than an SL1210!

Does the two tubes of the tonearm move independently? Like adjusting cartridge alignement further down the record?

Nope - the L & R signals went down separate tubes, thus "improving stereo separation" or some such similar waffle, according to Yamaha. A very significant improvement, I am sure. :eyebrows:

Nope not easy! This is what's causing issues with the way photos open.

The post you quoted now works but your post has the code ".html" appended to the end of the ".jpg" for the file type. This causes redirects with certain apps and browsers because its dealing with the picture as if its a link.

Interestingly there only a couple of pics out of all of them here that display correctly in apps due to this reason :(

Guys - I'm going through this thread cleaning up the images where necessary.

Remember that an image should only have the [I M G] and [/ I M G] tags, not [U R L] tags, as that makes them clickable and the links may cause us some bother.

Thanks, Ian, for pointing them out.

Ha ha! - yes, the Oracle Paris V just snuck into the edge of the pic. :)

That was in for review (http://hifipig.com/oracle-paris-mk-v-turntable/) in the webzine I contribute to. That turned out to be a very controversial review on a certain Subjectivist forum due to the pricing issues. :eyebrows:.

But yes, it did sound very good, and substantially better in some ways than a standard Techie, or the Mitsubishi and Pioneer PL-71 decks I had at the time. I missed it when it had to be returned. :(

Problem at 5K it should murder a standard Techy. I wouldn't mind betting an ORBE SE with SME M9 or Audio Note AN1 would see it off for little over half the price. They are still muttering away on Hi-Fi Subjectivist :)

:eyebrows:

Ah well, mutter away! The problem with that 'debate' is that I've heard the Paris V and they haven't. It really does do some things very well indeed, and betters the Orbe in those respects as well (related to imaging sophistication/naturalness and low level dynamic nuance), in my system at any rate. (Griffo brought his Orbe over in my PL-71 days). It sounds way more natural than a standard Techie because of that. But if you want to flex the walls, then sure, you need to look elsewhere.

Jerry.

I think you need to have Orbe and Paris for a side by side comparison. Also on brief hearings i wouldn't say there was a vast SQ improvement between an Orbe and earlier incarnations of the Delphi. It all depends if you consider the improvements (or differences) are worth the extra 2.5K.

I think with reviews in general it is better to include comparisons in terms of sound and value. Something that is often glossed over with something that sounds great in isolation. Of course the attacks you received by certain people on HFS are totally unacceptable especially as they have no basis given their lack of experience with the product. Unfortunately some think all reviewers are getting back handers.

This is winning so far (for me anyway) as there is something about a B+W image, maybe its because vinyl is black! Splendid.

2 new turntable mats, 1 from Oyaide and 1 from Combak

Benz cartridges, Nick's new dac, ifi phono stage, dac and usb power, the new Canor TP134 is there too (sold one this week) and the matching tube CD player will be there as well which I heard at Bristol and it's very good indeed.

Vinyl is selling well too! Just got The Jimi Hendrix Experience 180g pressing, Miles Davis, Kinda Blue

Well you did ask!

Oh and don't forget the new Tellurium Q Black Diamond speaker cables so popular on the AOS already, snip at £3600 a pair. :)

Right then, last night I was fortunate enough to venture out to a local eaterie to celebrate my pending birthday (next week) with the family. It was strange place to spy what could possibly be the finest ever "piece" of analogue art I ever laid eyes on. This turntable was sculptured by hand and the person who made it has to rate as one of the finest craftsmen (or woman actually as she works with my wife). Painstakingly sculptured and attention to detail second to none........................

I present the instant winner of the turntables 2013 thread as presented by Mrs Joanne Brook..............................

Dave, I'm on with Photobucket but can't seem to get the code right.
I click on the photo I want to copy, then copy what I guess is the code(the stuff in the little window right at the top of the tool bar thing) then I go into The Art Of Sound and paste that info into the window after clicking "insert image" but it all goes teets up from there:doh:

I'll try and remember that despite having no clue what Tapatalk is or does. But, no promises. I'm old and forgetful. :wheniwasaboy:

I still have an SL-150MK2. I can't say I've ever run into that problem. Much more problematic for me is the sprung suspension of the SL-1500MK2 (shown) and my SL-1400MK2 on anything other than a slab floor. Though these platters are heavier than a 1200 platter, the thin stock mat does not take the ring out of the platter. As such, I replinthed the other SL-1500MK2 I have (mostly because the suspension failed) and rarely ever pull out the pictured 1500. The 1200MK2s are near constantly in use. But, it was a nice day; so, I figured, "What the heck. Let's have a little fun." :)

Thanks guys! Tapatalk is an App for your iThingy, makes reading easier and sometimes even adds to the forum experience.

I'm not sure what you mean with "suspended", i assume the 1400/1500 MkII's are not sub-chassi players?
Anyways, my primary concern with the SL-150 was the original feet, perhaps we mean the same thing?

They are actually. Unlike the SL-150MK2 with it's rigid wood bottom half, the SL-13xx, 14xx and 15xxMK2 utilized a suspension of 4 adjustable springs in rubber boots. When the suspension fails, the sub-chassis sinks and hits whatever the TT is resting on. Likewise, the platter grinds to a halt on the inside lip of the top chassis.

Guys - I'm going through this thread cleaning up the images where necessary.

Remember that an image should only have the [I M G] and [/ I M G] tags, not [U R L] tags, as that makes them clickable and the links may cause us some bother.

Thanks, Ian, for pointing them out.

Pretty decent Thorens TD160B, still boxed, the platter's underneath! The ADC arm and Ortofon cartridge can go and I'll put some better items on. I'll modify the TT as necessary to bring it up to or surpass at least TD160 Super spec.

Don't know if this will work but, he's had his first run today after the Restoration.

The arm is a Meyware Formula V and the setting up cartridge is a Grado Silver 1. The cartridge it will work with next week is the ADC 10E Mk.IV shown here as well. Now if someone knows how to make these pictures show live, please have a go - I haven't mastered the Art Of ... yet.

Yup, black and a gold trim works well on my MBLs as well, and will go nicely with that Gyro. Have they arrived safely, Ian? I'm looking forward to getting the headshell in exchange.

Normally I'm a fan of understated simple styling and this would be a bit bling for my usual style. But with the Gyro it doed seem to work quite well.

The MBL's must still be in transit Jerry, I do hope the postie hasn't sidetracked them. You did send them 2nd class "recorded" I hope.

Still, recorded delivery covers up to £38 - so no worries there.

Hi Andre,

It was made by "The Frazer Company" a few years ago, not too cheap but very nice finish. I seem to recall the chap's name is Stuart Frazer and he sometimes posts onto Pink Fish.

Hi Wos,

Yes well spotted, it is indeed an SL10, stuck in a drawer at the moment looking for a new home. 3 decks is 1 too many these days, hence it's retirement.....cracking deck all the same though.

Cheers......Dave

Well in the 40+ years of owning a 124, mine has seen only 6 arms:

SME 3009/S2
SME 3009 (improved)/S2
Infinity 'Black Widow'
Audio & Design M9BA (aka Keith Monks M9BA)
Decca ffss 'Super'

and now a Breuer Dynamic 5A.

I have two more 124s, one fitted with an SME 3012 and the second with the Decca ffss.

As you can guess, I'm a bit of a cartridge geek!

It's OK, I realise one can't win two years on the trot - it's just a bit of fun. Any way, there isn't much different (to look at).

I can only remove the wires in photoshop as they are entirely attached to the deck - I could move the lamp, but... I don't want to.

My camera isn't good enough to take close up pics - I may have one from the past.

To be honest, there isn't a lot of 'clutter' IMO - however, YMMV.

Here's my AT150MLX mounted on a Trans-Fi Salvation deck. Once properly set up this cartridge is tremendous and so very far away from sounding like what is thought of as a stereotypical MM. I load it with 33k ohms and run VTF at 1.45gm. Go much over 1.5gm and I find the sound deadens,

this is winning so far, mainly because I have that cartridge myself and love it! :)

not sure puttting o-rings on your platter is wise?

This may not be quite in the same class as the previous posters:doh:

I am sort of thinking about a project and, as one does, I try and gather together a bunch of bits and see what I can turn them into. My first port of call is the local Google group who sell and buy stuff all the time. Audio Al would have a ball.

Anyway, put an ad on for old turntables and two so far today for free!! The first is a Sony PS1450. Looks OK until you look.

Don't in any circumstances, under pain of deaf, consider inserting one of these in any system. To say its bad is an insult to bad. I got rid of all the auto junk just in case it could be turned into something, even put an SME headshell with a half decent Technics cartridge on it. It makes noises.

Sadly one of them is a huge mechanical hum from the motor. However, its a reasonably big, powerful beastie so may get used for 'the project'

Do people actually use this sort of junk to listen to music? Good grief:eek: Still, if they think MP3s are OK, I suppose its not too surprising.

I wonder what the second one will be like!

The hi-fi is somewhere to the left and it silent on all inputs unless the music is flowing:)

On this deck, obviously designed for the cRap, there is no hum or noise at all until the stylus hits the record. Never the less, I'll try moving it away, miracles could happen. Sadly, its still a sow's ear:(

But then it was free:)
