As you know I got my current Usher CP 6371 speakers late ish last year, and I absolutely love them, but, and its a big but, everyone else in the household thinks they are FAR too big! Oddly I agree here, but am so taken by how they sound, I overlook that little fact!

So the quandary starts, do I give in and look for smaller, equally as good speakers? (Do they exist?)
Or, dig my heels in and tell them to go and do one?

Whilst you're at it, suggest some alternatives please, pref only ones that are available in gloss black.

AVI have some supposedly wonderful speakers in gloss black. You could ditch all the amps and expensive foo wores (I mean wires) too and have mucho change too. The family would love you, but could you live with the sonic consequences I wonder?

Hi Craig

If you like the Usher sound, why not give the Usher 719 stand mounts a try.
I currently use 2 pairs of them in my AV system at the mo. I have previously used the 6971's and the big 8571's too, loverly speakers.
The 719's have served as my main speakers in the 2 channel system on a few occasions with great results.
You do see them up for sale and they don't go big bucks either.

Not overly small, its just that they are about a foot taller than the Quads I did have, not to mention being lots deeper, and do look big!

I've decide to come to a compromise, I let her keep the Laura Ashley paper on the wall behind them, and she lets me keep the speakers! :lol:

Keep them, Craig. They're certainly not too big compared with mine, and you'd have to prise mine from my cold dead fingers. I'm fairly certain you'll regret letting them go, so think carefully before downsizing.

Tell em all to go and jump, the main reason your Usher's are so good is because of their size. If you pander to the small is beautiful brigade you'll end up with some skinny pencil type boxes with all the musicality drained out of them.

Quite a few seem to buy the hi fi with the other half always in mind.
Worse one i saw was someone sell a pair of speakers that he had just paid 4 grand for.
Because they didn't match the skirting boards he sold them a couple of weeks later losing £1,800.

I'd never try and stop my other half's hobby and vice versa.

In all honesty, and despite using a tape measure to indicate the height of the Ushers, when they were actually put in situ, even I thought they were big mo fo's! They made the outgoing Quad 22's look like bookshelf speakers.
But, as I said, I've decided not to move them on.
What I could really do with is a room ten feet longer, and that way they wouldn't look as big! :)

Colouring and lighting may help to diminish the look, maybe even pictures on the walls

Tell her you have the chance of a really good deal from a friend on speakers just like in the link below in the same wood and with the identical black plinths to raise them a bit higher and ask if she likes them as they are the only ones that will sound as good as your Ushers :)

Tell her you have the chance of a really good deal from a friend on speakers just like in the link below in the same wood and with the identical black plinths to raise them a bit higher and ask if she likes them as they are the only ones that will sound as good as your Ushers :)
